It was time for my year end break, and what better place to spend it than in Singapore.

With the upcoming arrangements with Emirate, this would be one of the last times to fly the QF A380 on this route, which would be replaced by a new flight number, QF35/36, operated by the 747, between originating in Melbourne and terminating in Singapore. Incidentally, this would also be my first time on a Qantas A380.

The itinerary was:

QF505 Dep Brisbane 0600 Arr Sydney 0835 (Business)

QF421 Dep Sydney 0930 Arr Melbourne 1105 (Business)

QF9 Dep Melbourne 1640 Arr Singapore 2125 (First)

Leg 1: QF505, B767-300, Seat 3A

Dropped my rental car off at Brisbane Domestic airport, and walked over to the terminal via the newly opened car park/pedestrian crossing/air train terminal complex. Definitely a big improvement over the previous setup.

Reached the Qantas terminal shortly after 0500, walked straight up to the priority check in counter. I did not notice any special counters for international connections. Check in was processed efficiently although without as much as a greeting or smile from the check in lady. Bags tagged "Business" all the way through to Singapore.

A visit to the business lounge was next. Nothing extraordinary to report here - it wasn't too crowded as it was still rather early. Hot breakfast items of scrambled eggs, mushrooms and bacon was available.

Priority boarding worked well, and soon the flight was underway. I find flying on a 767 domestically was still provided a better experience than on a narrow body. Decided to skip a full breakfast to save some room for the Flounge dining later in the day.

An abbreviated second breakfast

Crew was excellent on this sector, warm, friendly and really genuine. When I declined the hot food option, one of the crew members offered a "light breakfast" of sourdough bread with condiments, tea and orange juice. Landed punctually into a very wet Sydney morning.

Sydney Business Lounge

Fairly crowded at about 0830, but with a good offering of hot breakfast items, same as what was on offer in the Brisbane lounge.

Leg 2 QF421, A330, Seat 3k

A fairly light load on this sector which utilized an internationally configured aircraft. Skybeds on a domestic sector is certainly a very comfortable way to fly. Was served what was by far the best breakfast I had on a plane.

Next up: Melbourne F Lounge and QF9 in F.

Melbourne F Lounge

Wasted no time time in getting to the Flounge to maximise the 5 hour layover.

I did not manage to get a spa appointment the day before, as I wasnt available to answer the one call from the F team. Not a problem though, as there was plenty of available appointments that day, so i decided to go for a back massage.

Settled in and decided to start with a salt and pepper squid with a glass of Delamotte, prior to the spa appointment.

Not a bad way to spend the afternoon...

I then received one of the best back massages ever but a nice young spa therapist ;).

A satisfying, and hopefully healthy-ish meal. The only let down was the salt and pepper squid, which was soggy and tasted flat.

Nice...we're trying to jag two FASA before the end of April. Seems quite a few have the same idea.

This is MEL-SIN in F, yeah? It wasn't all that long ago you could do, I think, QF10 MEL-SYD on the 747 with all the international trimmings.

I'm getting more envious everytime I read one of these :(

Classic shot of the aircraft with the wine glass in the foreground; akin to the mandatory leg room shot :)

Nice TR great pictures, the food looks amazing!
Just out of interest what made you fly all the way down to MEL, why not catch QF1 from SYD?
Though I must admit I do prefer MEL's QF Intl lounges over SYD's.

Apologies for the title, its MEL-SIN on QF9. The report for the actual flight will be up soon, with a focus on the degustation menu items.

Boarding call was made, and it was time to proceed to the main event. The flight must have been quite full in the main cabin, with queues backing up to the main level (the A380 boards from one level below the main departure hall). A faster way would be to take the lifts directly to the gate level. As with most international flights, the priority queue worked well.

Was warmly greeted and escorted to my seat. The CSM came by and asked if I had flown in First on the A380 before, and when I said no, he took the time to explain the features of the suite.

Amenity kit, pajamas and slippers where provided, as well as a welcome drink of Cometes de Champagne, almonds and olives.

Shortly after takeoff, canapes were served, together with more champagne. Tasted fantastic, and I readily accepted seconds when offered.

Overall, I had a fantastic flight. The seat, food + drinks and cabin crew were all fantastic. A special mention to Michelle, who's warm and friendly service was exceeded only by her beauty. :D

To enjoy the quieter Melbourne lounge, better ex-Mel classic award availability, and to fly the A330-300 on a domestic segment.

Thanks for the TR! Hoping to snag an upgrade for this route in a few weeks so good to read about it :)

Did this trip back in April, TR brings back some great memories. Thanks for posting. :)

Great TR! From my perspective QF has one of the designed F cabins.

I think BA and Etihad got it right as well, less bling with a focus on simple design, functionality, comfort, space & privacy
