CBR-DOH flights foreshadowed

Re: Qatar to Canberra

A tag flight to another destination like ADL might work, otherwise can't see CBR sustaining the service by itself.

Re: Qatar to Canberra

Cant imagine enough demand DOH-CBR direct, so there will presumably be an intermediate point (SIN, BNE, PER, ADL or more left field CGK?)

Re: Qatar to Canberra

Qatar is currently allowed 21 flights/week into Australia (SYD/MEL/PER/BNE). Those are all in use by QR.
However, they are also allowed another 7/week "provided such services operate via or beyond to a point in Australia other than Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth."

This could be a way to get service to BNE going, by going to/via a port like ADL, CNS or CBR.

Not sure how this relates to the current flights out of ADL?

Re: Qatar to Canberra

Maybe this is a copy of SQ to use CBR as a way to route through to WLG

Re: Qatar to Canberra

I would be SHOCKED if this ever actually eventuates.

Qatar love announcing stuff like this and then never flying it.

Re: Qatar to Canberra

The air services agreement would allow QR to operate a daily DOH-CBR-BNE flight on top of the current 21 weekly flights to PER/SYD/MEL (while the current agreement would not allow a direct DOH-BNE).

Can they sell CBR-BNE vv without an international leg?

Re: Qatar to Canberra

The sceptic in me says this has all the makings of a greek trajedy....

Not as a stand alone flight ... ie you cold not just buy a QR ticket between CBR BNE without going to DOH . Similar to the UA service that was SYD MEL a while back

Re: Qatar to Canberra

AFF will need to start a Qatar forum:p

Will be interesting to see if SQ drops it's prices when QR goes on sale because they're hard to beat when they do! I also like the idea of flying the same carrier the whole way through to Europe and QR has more destinations whereas SQ has less (excluding partner airlines although many pax aren't concerned with this).
I like Changi but it is big and so in some ways prefer the simplicity of HIA. I read the little shuttle in the airport is now functional!
I'm guessing QF won't be very generous when it comes to sc on this route.

Lucky CBR if it eventuates.

I hope PER gets the QR A350 as previously planned.

Exactly.

That's why you see trans tasman tag routes (MEL/BNE/SYD-AKL, CBR-WLG, MEL/SYD-CHC) rather than domestic. At various points in recent history, PR, AI & UA have operated domestic tags or triangle routes (on SYD-MEL) and CX (on ADL-MEL), but these have all disappeared now. From memory the only such flights still being operated by international carriers are CNS-BNE (CX) and CNS-OOL (Chinese carrier?)
