Hi all,

I have been doing some research for my next trip to europ on SQ redeption ticket.

What would you think the best saver award redemption on any class would be to travel from any Australian city to any major european city?
Considering taxes, season and plane type.

I always travel upgraded ticket from economy to business and used to fly on MH alot, but with obtaining new Westpac Krisflyer Platinum card offer which I think it is too good to pass researching on SQ Krisflyer is needed.

So what is your experience/thought in this regards?

Thanks.

Well first of you will have to decide if you want to fly J or Y. F is not available for Saver Destinations in Europe.

J is restricted to MAN, AMS, Istanbul, Frankfurt and Rome.

Y is availble to all major airports including on the newer planes.

But to me J Saver on an old plane is much better than Y Saver on a new plane.

Also with Y Saver..the hefty fuel fines come into play making the redemption not that good a value.

With J Saver at 127K it is hood value despite the FF as other J redemptions on other airlines cost more points.

After that it gets down to which cities that YOU wish to visit.

Thanks lovetravellingoz for info and pointers.

Any city which is a hub eg Frankfurt. Where getting a connection flight would be easy. Anyways european cities are few hours/minutes apart,
flying
Also I agree would you 100%. A J Saver on an old plane is much better than Y Saver on a new plane. Considering lounge access, food and other
facilities and goodies that comes with business class flight.

But does that mean that J class redemption ticket is the best value to get?

If not what redeption ticket would you advise?

Thanks.

And to the OP, what do you mean "best value"?

Hi auriga,

By saying "best value" from my point of view I ment:

- minimum amount of points needed either as award ticket or upgrade,
- easy flight connection from that particular european city to other cities
in european continent,
- Taxes,
- Type of plane that is operating to that city.

If anyone else could add to the list please do so.

Thanks.

Hi auriga,

- Type of plane that is operating to that city.

.

You basically will have to make up your own mind on this if you want to fly in J.

Essentially now with the 744 gone (which has a good quality J), or soon gone most routes where you can still gert Savers on are the older planes (or configurations) of the 732 and 733. If you want to fly 777 or the A380 in J then you have to bok at twice the points cost.

An exception is routes with the A330 such as Adelaide Singapore which hasa better business class than on the older planes.

For me..the saver J is still good value and I will avoid paying for J in the new planes at double the cost.

From my personal research for Mrs Albatross to go to the UK, I am going to put her on a J Saver to Manchester.

From there she can travel to her friends in UK just as easily as if she had gone to Heathrow.

Any J product is going to be fantastic compared to the discount backpacking Y class travel that she did in the 80s & 90s.

J saver award and the 15% online booking discount.
As others have said, this is not available on the A380 or 777-300ER where 2x amount of points are required:rolleyes:

PS having said that, I used 50K+ pts to upgrade from J--->F (747) Fra-Sin-Syd a couple years ago. They were 2 great flights!!

Agreeded.

And the 744's F product ("skysuite") is a good product, even by today's standards. So F saver awards/upgrades represent good value on this product IMHO
