Howdy.

I booked myself to fly home from New Zealand on LAN to try and maximise my cathay miles. Unfortunately my travel agent booked the tickets with a very old and rarely used qantas FF number instead of my new shiny Cathay FF.

I tried to get it changed at check-in but didn't see that the wrong number appeared on my boarding pass.

Does any one know if its possible to contact LAN and ask them to change the booking. Or should I just accept the fact that its only 1000 miles and its gone to qantas instead.

Thanks

jso,

I have not done this but have read of it being done though it could be painful and drawn out. I would suggest you ring the LAN 1800 number and see what you can do. You will need to get the QF points reversed before you can get the CX points added.

Good luck.

I recall there was a thread about re-crediting miles to another carrier here before and it’s not easy to do. It all comes down to contacting Qantas and getting them to un-credit the miles to your account. If they do then CX are in a better position to credit them for you. LAN has nothing to do with it, as far as I’m aware, as the points are already in your QF account.

The reason Qantas may not do it for you as it’s not in their interests to do so, they neither need you to have the miles nor want to take them away. I’d guess they’d be apathetic.

Sam/Straitman and Co - hi
This is "sort of" linked to the question re assignment of points.
I flew C on Iberian 3rd June (Oneworld affiliate) this week after my status credits were erased on the 1st of June due to QF annual punishment regime kicking in and having to start again.

I am WP however have just checked and whilst the flights have been undertaken after 1st June QF have credited them against last years (now i have 1700 from last year but none from this year!!)

Called QF and they said "oh yes that hapens when you fly some of the smaller carriers and it is because you paid for them before your new year started!!) - WTF??

I asked to speak to the supervisor and she confirmed the same "story". Have either of you travel guru's experienced the same issue?

I have successfully had points moved between AA and QF for BA flights - it was a long and drawn out process. I needed to show that my intention had been to credit to the other carrier by showing that all other flights on the itinerary had been credited to the other carrier.

I am somewhat concerned about last nights flight on AA as my AA status was in the but I have been assured that my QF number was in the booking as well... Thankfully I have just hit WP PG so it is no real loss if the points don't credit except for not having enough points to upgrade to F on the way home...

I tried to get it changed at check-in but didn't see that the wrong number appeared on my boarding pass.

Fwiw, it seems very hard to get LAN to update details at check-in. I had a QF number registered but for some reason it didn't get accepted so didn't appear. I then tried at check-in and service desks on 3 ports along the way and was given a whole variety of stories but all failed to get the number entered.

Ultimately, I had to get QF to register post-flight which was a drawn out process in itself.

you need to manage your travel agent more optiminally one muses.........given LAN is involved good luck. I can understand success between BA and QF, but that would be it.

SPRUCE

Just been caught out by this myself :( AA have credited my recent F flight to them rather than QF :( Looks like I will be having a small fight with them this week...

I will be a little more adamant when I get to check in today!
