Hi all,

After a recent upping in the amount of travel I will do I find myself 300sc short of platinum with benefits. In your opinion is it worth doing a status credit run for this benefit. Have a year end of August 31.

The usual answer to this question is that only you can answer the question.

IF you are going to use the benefits, particularly International, then I would say yes. On the other hand IF you are chasing Platinum just because you can and will gain no real benefit I would say no.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The answer is still possibly the same though.

Agree entirely with Straitman
On the basis of what I have read and heard about P1 it is not a level worth doing a SC run to attain.

 Edited as realised you are referring to PG/ FF points etc and not P1
Again 300SC is a lot of points or cash ( especially in Australia ) for an arguably marginal benefit.

Thanks for the responses thus far. Another question. My partner is currently a bronze frequent flyer member, as she travels mainly with me and is entitled to the first lounge etc. is it worth gifting gold just for the purpose of better seat selection? The gifting of gold would be the only reason for me to attain this level as the 50000 points is less than the total outlay for a jasa.

WP is enough IMHO. Consider the WPx2 level a bonus if you get there. I'd consider doing it for a very small spend where may be only 1 extra 'local' sector tips you over the edge e.g points Syd > Mel return in Y to earn the 50k bonus points or the PG (only if needed) provided you had nothing better to do. As there is always extra hidden costs with flying e.g parking / transport plus the time spent doing it vs spending time with family or freinds and a bottle of Red or three.

work out how much its going to cost you points or money to get 300sc. Then divide that by how many times your misses is going to travel without you.

Agreed that WP is enough. I wouldn't bother wasting money purely to get to 2400 SCs.

If you think you might not achieve WP next year it might be worth it.

I've been a WP for a few years then a WP+ for 3 years....then nothing. I thought I would drop off the chart but they gifted me WP - might have happened if I was only a WP but I'm thinking it was a soft landing from WP+

I was 400 SC short of WP, and despite getting the double SC offer, I managed to book a JASA domestically that was completed over a few days, with some time in FNQ. ALl it cost was 96,000 points and around $500 in taxes. I investigated several international destinations, and decided this was the best option. I did 4 sectors in one day which netted the 400 SC alone.

Start with BNE as your first departure point, and if you play around with dates, you'd be amazed how much the difference in points are.

If you were already going to be in a place like the USA and had a spare day then 300SCs should be achievable for ~AUD500. The minimum value of those additional 50,000 points would be ~AUD1,250.

Just a thought and I would not hesitate to take extra flights if the cost was <AUD1,250. And personally I would not waste QFF points on an Anyseat award as those QFF points are much more valuable to me used for Oneworld awards....

I certainly don't think WP1 is worth doing status runs for over WP. As for doing a run to go from SG to WP, I am going to do this but only because it's so easy with the double SC offer. Otherwise the benefits of WP over SG aren't worth the hassle to me.

If I was 300SC off WP2, I’d probably go for it, after all the 50k points would certainly be useful in addition to the points you’ll get from flying to get there, and if you choose a JASA to get there, you’ll just be replacing points so there’s no harm.

Although no more status bonuses at 2500, the last would be 2000SC?

To clarify, I am already platinum. The with benefits is the 2400 threshold

A good reason to include this information in your profile so when asking questions, other members have all the information ;)

IMO not worth it. If your partner travels (mostly) with you, it seems to be not really worth it.
