Hi,
i was wondering if anyone could check EF for me - flight QF11 on Fri 30/4. What's J looking like at the moment?
I know it's still just over three weeks away, but thought I'd check. I have a request (wish???) for three of us to upgrade on points from Y+ to J.

Thank you!!

I'll let other more knowledgeable EF subscribers do the analysis - I'm a new subscriber, but with D0 I0 I would assume your chances are not good, especially for 3 people.

Being WP would help your cause I do know

EF will show something similar to what Seatcounter.com will show (and Seatcounter is free to use).

SeatCounter - The Booking Class Availability Machine
Qantas 11 SYD/01:05p LAX/09:45a

Code:
A B C D F I J K L M N O Q R S T V W Y
4 9 9 0 4 0 9 9 9 9 9 1 9 0 9 0 9 6 9

Looking at what is there at the moment, I wouldn't get too excited about an upgrade - although things will change quite a bit before the flight.

J and C @ 9 is good because QF are willing to sell at least 9 more Business class seats (Although there might be less than 9 still available and QF are willing to oversell hoping that there are cancellations/noshows etc)

D and I @ 0 aren't a positive indicator, because it basically means Qantas thinks that they will get high paying customers who will pay top $ for their seats.

Hope that helps. I haven't checked SeatCounter's results against EF, but they should be similar if not the same.

Thank you!
I'd forgotten about SeatCounter. Of course, since we booked and paid for our Y+ tickets BNE-SYD-LAX-(US ports)-LAX-SYD-BNE, Y+ is now available for sale on the BNE-LAX-BNE flights on the days we are flying.
We're going over on 30/4 and back on 14/5 - can anyone see what seats EF is showing for Y+ on QF15/16 on those days?
Seatcounter is saying there's plenty of W/R class seats, but I wonder if they're in Skybeds or not.

Katie - both those dates are showing a 2-3-2 configuration in rows 23 and 24 - so that is skybeds. As for availability, E/F shows W8, R4, T4 for outbound and W9, R3, T0 for inbound.

To get the skybeds, it may well be worth changing depending on the penalty for reticketing. Keep in mind though that an aircraft change could see you back in standard PE seats. I saw flights around these dates (I am heading over 24/04 and back 01/05) change from a 4 class config to a 2 class operated as 3 - pushing some Y customers back to standard Y seats from PE ones. I chose to go via SYD and SFO to get the PE seats in Y. Here's hoping for an OPUP to Y+ like last year!

30th Apr - J9 C9 D9 I1 W8 R4 T4 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 XC E0

At least 4 Skybeds free for PE PAX at this stage. As noted above equipment could change but PE is being sold.

14th May - J9 C9 D2 I0 W9 R3 T0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 XC E0

Same as for 30th April, with only 1 seat sold in PE, 4 blocked and 9 PE seats free in a 14 seat cabin that QF is selling on the web site

2 rows of 2-3-2 seating are being sold as PE by the looks of it.

Thanks Paddy!

Probably now moving a bit OT for this sub-forum, but now my dilemma is:
* Do I risk trying to change our flights to BNE-LAX-BNE in PE and probably get Skybeds, if the operating aircraft doesn't change. Possible cons: aircraft change to a 'proper' 4/3 class 747; potentially lose 30k points I used to upgrade all of us on BNE-SYD-BNE. Possible pro: A skybed for PE price! Also then 40 SCs less each for the trip, as Sam pointed out.
Or do I stick with the A380, in definitely PE seats, with hopes of upgrades to J on points (with me as the highest status holder at PS...), J seats on the domestic flights, and 40SCs more for the trip.

Don't think the 40 SCs are any kind of deal breaker, I'll still be 180+ SCs short of SG by the end of the trip & not likely to make it before my year end.

:confused::confused::confused::confused:

I think it's an iffy chance either way. Here's my reasoning:
- Change to BNE flight. There's no guarantee the plane won't change, nor is there a guarantee that you can select the J seats in PE at the moment (Status can play a part there).
- Stay with SYD flight. There's no guarantee the upgrade will come through.

I'd prefer an A380 over a 747 given the choice, even with the BNE-SYD-BNE legs added on. The extra SC's help too!

I'm seriously thinking of swapping. I spoke to QF today & they told me Y+ on thise flights are 2-3-2, as others have said from what EF is showing, sky beds with Y+ service. Seat counter for QF11 over is now showing 6 J seats, so I reckon the 3 of us have a snowflake's chance of getting point upgrades.
It'll get us into LA earlier for our connection to DFW, and I Will hopefully be rested enough to be awake for my training course the net day.

Actually, one thing I said in my last post is wrong. Status should play no part in whether you can get the seats as they aren't additional seats, but the whole defined cabin.

You still have to worry about whether the planes get shifted around, but you also have to worry about the chances of an upgrade ex-SYD...
