I'm likely to be doing the following Star Alliance travel in the next 12 months - AC J SFO-YVR-LAX and NZ Y AKL-CHC-ZQN-AKL. There's the possibility of a couple of NZ flights in addition. Is that sufficient to justify joining Airpoints?

I've joined to capture some minor flights with SAS and Blue1, but honestly, I can't see much point for me. However, Turkish Airlines appears to be the best in terms of improving status for what you are after.

Is that Y or discount Y? I've actually found that for discount Y it's better to cerdit to VA, work that out!

But there is the AC legs as well. Not a lot though. Probably not a lot of point(s).

Same applies though, AC can be credited to any Star Alliance program and I note you are not suggesting joining Aeroplan. Personally I have US and UA membership and would credit there, probably US due to the ongoing opportunity to gain points (including buying) and their great Star Alliance awards!
