Just caught this on the BBC website.

Close to Chinese New Year. But I sense somethings afoot? Near the end, it mentions a "chartered" flight. But cannot say if it's a misprint or otherwise?

Read and enjoy.

Chinese woman becomes 'world's luckiest passenger' - BBC News

What's the closest you've come to an empty flight?

For me, about 10 years ago, flying EZE-LIM, on a 737, perhaps 15 pax on board. Best I can remember.

She's sitting in CZ's 'W class' domestic premium economy. Wondered what happened to the Fcl cabin?

i think the social media 'complainers' didn't realise the flight would have had to fly anyway to pick up return pax.

I was lucky enough to be the only passenger in the F cabin on an EY B773 flying CDG-AUH recently.
Who cares how many passengers were in the other cabins?
I still count myself luckier than her!

QF 717 CNS-DRW a few yrs ago. Tech issue. They put most PAX on the earlier flight via GOV. Me, Mrs Pineapple and one other guy didn't make that earlier flight. Mrs CNS lounge dragon cranky because she had to open the lounge late. Really rude, not made to feel lucky at all :/

On our recent flight to Nepal on the KL to Kathmandu leg my wife and I were the only passengers in Business Class on the Malyasian flight.

I would doubt many people at all are going TO Guangzhou, so the flight was certainly more concerned about getting there to pick up passengers returning home from Guangzhou. I'm here at the moment and all the hordes of people are trying to leave. I guess there may have been crowds going elsewhere at her departure point if she were on the train.

I might just point out that this may have been rather a hastily-researched article, Guangzhou is a city, not a province as mentioned in one of the captions.

Years ago, caught a STA charter out of KL to Melbourne then Sydney, probably only about 20 people on the plane to Melbourne. It then filled up and I'm sure it would have been full on it's flight from Sydney back to KL.

2010, Iceland volcano, Singapore to Melbourne Qantas flight had about 50 people on it. Great flight!

One other, in the PRC in about 1984, there was a repositioning flight from Kunming to Wuzhou on a brand new 737, there were about 6 passengers.

I flew Sydney to Moree on Brindabella Airlines once and was the only passenger on board! Does that count?

-200 series. Three of them served with Air China 1988-1995.

This was before then, it was still CAAC at that time and I still have the freebie that was given out, a small compass! Airframes.org has it as a 737-2T4

Ah - yes - CAAC! Forgot to check them. Using Airframes.org looks like deliveries started for that particular series with B-2501 in Feb of 1983.

I have flown AN from BNE-CNS in J on a 737 and had the whole aircraft to myself.

Except pilot, co-pilot and the cabin crew.

Totally amazing flight with lots of special details including doing the landing in the coughpit!

My dept head had an EK SYD-DXB flight delayed and ended up being one of 20 on the rescheduled one. Showed me a picture of very empty cabin

Completely agree – was only pax in SQ F coming back from Shanghai the other day. That was incredible. I think I had three staff dedicated to me, and saw many other faces come by.

Also, some of the best service was in VA J, when I was the only one on the MEL-PER route with the new business seats. Best FA ever and we basically just hung out and chatted the whole flight. That was so much fun.

Has happened a few times
Me and Mrs D the only two in SQ Suites - the rear of the downstairs cabin was most certainly, NOT empty, however!

It's nuts when you're sitting there and you basically have, like, 15% of an A380 dedicated to just you.
