Woolworths gift card thread

New stocks of theperfectgift cards arrived at my Woolies today. Activation fee is now $6.95.

Stock up now!

VISA ONLY cards still had $5.95 fee - but maybe any new stock of these will also see an increase in fees?

The game is always changing :)

As someone whose best earning card is a 1.5pts/$ Amex, I've never been convinced of the value of the GC method outside sale periods.

It costs 66c/150 QFF points vs 100 points if I pay with a QF earning Visa at 1pt/$. In other words, 66c for 50QFF points, plus a bit of hassle.

When they waive the activation fee or offer a decent chunk of bonus points, I see the attraction.

But I can't see good value in rushing out to buy these even if the activation tax is going up.

YMMV.

most here would be earning around 3psts/$1 so imo its worth it just depending on the time you have and the amount you need ;)

3pts pts/$ AMEX makes this a no brainer for me + about to cancel my AMEX cards so buying as many as I can get my hands on.

And rememebr right now is a sales period. You get a $10 Rebel voucher for ever $100 thperfectgiftvoucher you buy. Although what I'm going to do with my $1200 of Rebel vouchers I can't yet say!

Yeah, that was the other point... I don't have any particular need for hundreds of dollars of Rebel gift cards... especially with no Rebel store in DRW. And yes I do know you can shop online... :)

If your a local champion does that then change to 4 points per $ with Plat Edge if your local Woolies has them in stock?

That increase in fees is a wipe out for value.....
Anyone know when the next jbhifi 10% offer will be available from Woolies?
When was the last jbhifi offer?

I see Myer is back again.

The fee increasing to $6.95 is unfortunate but I think there is a positive. I will then become free of the addiction of buying and spending these gift cards and will free up time to doing more important things.

So IF they go to $6.95, then at 5% discount that's 1.60 or 1.6%; at 5.7% discount it's $100.85 or 0.85%.

In the past I have often paid 1% to 1.5% surcharge for using my VISA to get 1 point per $ (sometimes less). So, as long as the retailer accepts the GCs without a surcharge it would still be doable, especially at 5.7% with some sort of bonus to go with it.

Might head off to Woolies to stock up just in case.

Maybe last week's Rebel promotion was a way to clear most of the old $100 eftpos stock in preparation of putting out the new cards with the $6.95 fee.

Maybe there will be a similar promotion coming up soon to clear the old stock of Only1 Visa cards before and if they introduce a $6.95 version.

Or maybe they are testing the response to the increased fee on the eftpos card first before increasing the fee on the Only1 Visa.

This makes me tremble :(

All reasonable suppositions. Either way I'm now stocking up on VISA ONLY cards!
