Woolworths gift card thread

I'm a bit confused how you avoid the payment surcharge by splitting payments. ....

Its $2.75 DEFT surcharge per payment. If I do it over the counter, the lady just needs to scan the bill once, she can split payments, and $100 payment each time, so I pay bill amount + $2.75.

If I do it on self serve, each scan I do, I make a $100 payment (due to Perfect GC $100 amount) but only $97.25 reaches the biller. $2.75 goes to DEFT Payments (Macquarie?)

Previously, some operators at POs would allow you to mix payments for some transactions, i.e. pay $50 cash and $50 card to pay a bill. Multiple transactions on card are a similar concept, but some systems don't allow

Can always use at cafes etc - but then you have to keep track of balances (annoying)

I didnt know that, oh well,

however I dont really want to have so many small cards floating around, tracking would be a night mare!

Over the counter, when a bill is scanned at Australia Post available methods of payments appear on the screen. Gift cards always came up as "Credit" and many bills over the counter do not accept credit as a method of payment. Those bills that did accept credit as a method of payment, ( Example Vic Roads with extra 0.40% fee, ) still accept credit cards as long as they are not gift cards. Gift cards can no longer be used for any bills ( postbillpay).

Split payments are still allowed, ie part cash, part card. Just as long as a gift card isn't part of that payment.

Not sure about self serves.

Whats the rationale for aust post to stop accepting gift cards? No difference from paying with cash or credit card.

Yes its certainly baffling. Australia Post sell gift cards, their own branded VISA $50, $100 or $200 ( includes a fee) . A new EFTPOS only card is also available, as well as the usual Load and Go gift cards ( max one time load up to $500 inc $6.95 fee). Seems they can sell them but won't accept them for anything.

I've been using eftpos cards to pay bills over the counter at aus post for a few months

I sincerely hope they don't stop this ability.
I really do

Well reading this thread there is a suggestion certain members of this forum (and probably OzBargain) are clogging these machines by processing large numbers of small value gift cards and affecting the ability of others to use these facilities.

Loopholes invariablly reach a point where too many know about them and they get closed down due to weight of use. This has happenened at Australia Post a number of times now with barious payment methods. This looks like the latest such instance.

Been using perfect gc at local PO for strata Deft payments. This lady knows me well enough after numerous payments. We do split payments so I only incur a once off $2.75 Deft surcharge. Still worth it when the single strata bill is over $500 and some over $1k.

Well today walked in and she said head office left a memo telling them not to accept these gift cards.

I had the exact same experience at a PO close to home (but paying with a different type of GC). I used to put in as many GCs I had as one payment, but a couple of month ago I was told they can no longer accept GCs for payments (their payment system still continued to work, they had been instructed not to accept GCs as a form of payment, not even one at a time).

I've hadone mental blank

When I use these only1 gift cards at a physical terminal.

It's asked for a pin.

What pin am I supposed to use?

Completely baffled at the moment ....sillyme

Press enter and sign

Bummer. Had a decent stack of bills to pay. Thanks I'll know for next time

Edit: does anybody know with this weeks 1000 bonus pts for the jbhifi cards,
are these plain efptos cards that can be used anywhere that efptos is accepted?

are the cards really programmed to work only in these shops

I purchased one a while ago and tried to use it at coles to buy a gift card which didnt work, but I didnt use it to buy normal stuff

if it can be used as a normal eftpos card, it would be pretty silly to buy the perfect gift cards

So for the12/7 $50 eftpos offer..... Do you think we will get the bonus straight away? Therefore to buy 5 cards will need how much Woolies ecards? $55.95 first card + $203.80 for rest =$259.75?

Bought my first load of 5 x perfect gift cards this morning , i scan the first batch of 4 cards first to get the balance to 4000 points .

Then last 1 after that to used $20 saving from 4000 points . Effectively using $246.76 to buy $250 worth of efptos cards with 1000 points in my balance ( worth $5 )

Looking at buying the Ultimate gift card with my other WW account to use at JB Hifi for an iPad price at $469 . Basically i need 9 of those $50 value card WW say limit 5 efptos cards per account but not sure about the Ultimate kid gift card can we go over 5 ?

For those that are interested:

The perfect gift cards do not work in the US.

Only 1 VISA cards work fine in the US.

You can see how many points a given shop has earned on a self serve machine before checking out, so I'd recommend testing (and reporting back before this gets ozbargained!)

Somebody on OzBargain just posted saying "The 5 cards limit applied on combined purchase of EFTPOS and Ultimate Kids.i.e if you buy 3 Ultimate Kids you can only get points on 2 Eftpos."

Thanks for the info , cant seem to find any Ultimate Kid gift card at my closest WW in Sydney CBD , look like someone cleared it in the morning . For the perfect gift card i dont think it will last long as well . On 2 left of shelf dont think they will restock it

I can confirm the 5 card limit has been applied. I tried to buy 3+3 and it only applied 5 cards
My place had heaps of cards. I doubt $1.8 would excite normal people
