Also - the shape in the x-ray doesn't seem to match the image of the 'golden gun' - look at trigger area and length of the grip. I would think anything plated in gold (even electroplated) should reflect like a mirror, although I guess the lower half of the grip is probably plastic.

And all that other blue-black stuff in the x-ray image seems to have the same characteristics as the gun. I know it’s a multispectral image, but I’m so surprised that a gun would have the same characteristics as all the other junk she’s got in there. If you put the gun amongst all that other stuff, it’ll be a lot harder to see. But then again I guess there will be other spectral images they would’ve had and wouldn’t be releasing the juicy ones.

So it apparently got through LAX security
Very lax apparently. 😉
As per conditions from QF and presumably others, guns can be taken in checked luggage, but must be declared and meet a number of other criteria, including being a proper storage case etc.
Then the whole issue of not having the correct permit etc , so not sure how it got through checkin at LAX.

My observation, maybe unfounded, but seemed to me US officials couldn't give a damn about anything related to outgoing passengers and solely focussed on the incoming.

Agree. We simply walked through a door in NY. I asked husband when do you pass through immigration. He pointed to the door we'd just walked through.

No formal exit immigration in USA, but for sure they have face identified you and know everything about you when you leave the USA or at least do the airport thing
