Certainly there has been recent movements re the merger with first the new Executive team announced-
Parker’s AA executive team will have five from US Airways, three from American Airlines | Airline Biz Blog

And the court date to consider AA's plan to emerge from bankruptcy has been set for August 15th.Usually if the plan is approved AA would come out of Bankruptcy about 2 weeks later.so the new AA may be flying by September-
We’re looking for American Airlines to exit bankruptcy and merge with US Airways by the end of August | Airline Biz Blog

I am due to fly on AA on 7/9 and 10/9 so may get to experience it.

I really don't expect to see any change to on-board experience until next year at least.

There have already been significant changes since Ch 11 in the pointy end with a generally difference food philosophy - but that was before US officially entered the fray.

The sooner US Airways routes are incorporated into the oneworld Explorer fare, the better. Sooo many more options.

The longer they stay apart the more we can have the benefits of both FF programs...

When they merge OW might get more route options but they will get a bucket load of extra members competing for them as well...

If Australia beat Iraq, as I am hoping tomorrow night, and make the 2014 WC i think it will be time to ring up and book a USDM to South America for next year...

Does anyone know what happened to the FF programs when Continental and Delta merged?

Aaah, your question would more likely be when "Continental and United merged" or "Northwest and Delta merged" :!: :) There is probably a wealth of information on Flyertalk about these.

I knew they merged with someone. :) Yes you are right about my question. Assumption being AA and US Air won't reinvent the wheel. Will have to check out FT to see. Cheers

Good luck beating the MPM and finding availability!

If the merger is completed by Christmas this year I will eat my hat.

I would like to know how fare flexibility works with these knock out events, probably cheapest option would be a fixed return date, but what if the Aussies make the second round, could be an expensive change to the ticket.

I think from Perth the MPM is quite generous to South America, over 15,000 miles... So i think it should be doable... As for availaiblity, well the seats haven't been released yet have they, or would just be on the cusp of being made availabe, the award seats become available about 330 days out do they???

I would book the ticket only for a period covering the group round of games, so book the airfare to South America for say 2-2.5 weeks and then come back through Jo'burg and do a 2 week safari in Africa... Once the draw comes out of where Aust are playing and when i could schedule about a week in Brazil to maybe watch 2-3 games if i can get tickets, and the other week or so in South America i might visit the Galapogas Islands or Columbia or a few other places...

So that will be my general line of thinking, i might still be in South America if Aust does make the knock out stage but i doubt they will, so will at least be able to watch it at a sensible hour...

I thought that the award seats were available earlier to the elite FFs, correct me I am incorrect but I thought that availability was status based, could mean that as QF(NB) may miss out all together as the elites take the seats before the NB even know that they are there.

This redemption i would do through USDM with US Air, so my NB with Qf won't hamper me in the particular instance... Hopefully if there are US Air elites who get first bite of the cherry, they won't be booking seats on my routes coming from Australia...

If i can't get the seats at that particular time i will do much the same itinerary just miss the WC...
