will airlines stop flying to and from Cairo given the current situation there?

does anyone know what has previously happened with these kinds of circumstances?

I'm sure airlines have contingency plans should any port become unavailable. There would be a large amount of information from many sources and I suspect that airlines would share that information with each other.

And they will be ready to perform evacuations if required.

Didn't QF provide a rescue flight into Egypt with the last round of political unrest?

More important for tourists, expats etc to register with their consulate and keep in touch with them.

Airlines may choose to suspend the route... Many routes get suspended due to trouble ( or double staffed and basically drop pax, collect pax and fly straight back home). Up to the airlines to work out with their unions and under advice from their professional advisors.

Sure did, the newspapers made a big deal out of the fact that a couple of people even inquired about FF points for the evac flight.
It was a 747 which was sitting at FRA which did the evac, it was used as it was going to be sitting on the ground in FRA anyway.

We were originally booked on a cruise with Princess that ports into Alexandria on 1st August. So far that itinerary holds, but I am thinking the cruise line doesn't want to tell people just yet. Anyway, we cancelled a few months back for other reasons, but as Egypt was the reason I chose this cruise, then I wouldnt have been happy at the moment if we were still going.

Yeah it looks like things are getting worse there at the moment. currently booked to go there in Sept. called insurance they said cancelling purely on government travel advice doesn't cut it. they said I'm only covered if the airline cancels my flight.

If the Govt says do not travel then I think you're ok? They aren't saying that yet.

If no one wants to fly there they will certainly stop flights.

Tourists out of Europe sometimes use charter airlines so no doubt they will be hit first.
