after clicking on the store multiple times over the last few weeks ive decided to keep my points in the bank (closing in on 200k for J upgrades on next flights to the usa) ive decided im going to try and stay positive, i hope to god virgin make it through this....... how much do you still have in the bank and what were your plans for the points before all this craziness hit.... praying to the aviation gods

I moved points to KF but already have earned 35K VA points.

I have bookings for VA domestic in August and can only hope at this stage and Im glad we've traveled as much as we did in the past 8yrs.

We said exactly that last night! We started travelling before most people our age who save it all up for retirement. The only trip I want to do is Egypt, Israel and Jordan in December 2021.
We have a lot of points with Qantas. I'm hoping there is no issue. I think Virgin will survive but will test everyone's patience and will in the meantime.

Interesting that my wishes have narrowed down to future trips being Russia (to see St Petersburg and Switzerland). I also know we wouldnt have traveled as much in the past 8yrs if it wasnt for AFFer and its members.

Do you still have South Africa on your list

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

We have a dream trip to Iceland flying SQ at the end of Sept... we cashed in all our VFF points last Oct. We are holding out hope that flying will be possible, as it's over 5 months away, otherwise hopefully we can change the date to a year later... as for our weekend in Hobart in Jul, remains to be seen.

I think within states will be a go by July, interstate may be a bit dicey.

I have a flight to the US in September which I'm almost certain I won't be able to go on.

What happens to Virgin Australia is out of my control. I seen no sense in fretting or panicking over any of this. What will happen will happen.

Whilst i have a significant number of points (for me) and time invested in accruing them, it pales into insignificance when compared to what else I have lost in this crisis, and what others have lost in former times. Consider that in the last 100 years there has been many events where people have lost everything they have including their dignity.

Staying positive but getting less so with time.
Have trips to WA booked for mid August.Hoping that WA will still not be treating us as lepers by then.
Then a trip to Europe and USA in November. Not confident this will go ahead but hoping we can turn it into an Asian holiday.
Also booked for 3 weeks in BKK over Christmas and birthday.Still a possibility IMHO.

But March 2021 had convinced mrsdrron to at least visit India but on a cruise. If the cruise goes ahead we will be on it.Not a mega ship.Silver Spirit.

Have redeemed all my VA points, families and helped colleagues, neighbors do the same who wanted to.

Whether we all get what we ordered is out of my control now.

I've done all I can and I feel positive about that - if I hadn't, I would not be feeling ok.

Its now all in other peoples hands, and what will be will be.

I do feel sorry for people with large travel banks / large amount of VA points stuck in Velocity however and have my fingers and toes crossed for you!

I've decided to take a positive attitude to what's happening with VA. Sure, I'd like them to survive this and not because I'm a WP with them but because I generally do enjoy flying with them and it would be really good for the VA employees to keep their job. I'm not fussed if I lose my points (but I don't have that much left anyway because I redeemed for some flights even before all the COVID-19 stuff happened). After all, they're just points. I value my health and my ability to keep working and earning an income above all else at this point in time.

Moved some points to KF. Spent some in the store. Left around 200k in there. Have points with QFF. Really out of our control. Still have a job, at the moment that's the main thing.

have about 80k points, having redeemed over 700k in flights last year i feel i have had a good run.,including flying First Class to London return last year

currently travel bank is sitting at $900.

this has definitely changed my work, as i haven't even flown for work this year (was averaging a work trip every 3 weeks last year)

just hoping Virgin does pull through, not sure I would be flying much personally if it was just Qantas.

Some positives for me

- working from home and spending more time with family
- losing weight
- staying away from casino and saving much needed money is a blessing

I have close to 200,000 Velocity points and over 1 million Qantas points. I'm not tol hopeful on the Velocity points and the Qantas points are too difficult to use unless I burn them on one premium trip to Thailand and even then that's not easy.

We feel reasonably safe over in Perth by cutting off the riff raff turning up in the short term. Most of our CoVid-19 cases have come from visiting cruise ships and folks flying in from overseas hotbeds. We have given up Rottnest Island and our hotels to quarantine arrivals so person to person transmissions have been quite low.
Lets all hope the next 3 months of this keeps us safe.......Sorry @drron you are not a leper and we can still get you some MossWood and Diana Madeline red wine to help you maintain your heart health.
Currently we are sitting in our do nothing spot.......

The Artania has been quite a nasty toxic ship. Just as well many passengers exited. I wonder how they are faring at home?

SA is looking ok but with Easter results still a while away that hurdle needs to pass. Everyone stayed away from the country spots but instead landed on the beach walk in front of us.

Given the current health crisis and impending economic crunch:
  • I am very thankful that from refunds and money not spent while away, I now have around an additional $25-30K in my offset account as a buffer against any financial headwinds over the next 6 months or so due to others not paying monies owing, rising prices etc.
  • I'm in the country and in regular contact with loved ones who don't have to worry and stress out where I am and if I am safe.
  • I'm at home in familiar surroundings where I can bunker down and protect myself knowing, if need be, there are excellent medical facilities and properly trained staff minutes away
  • I missed out on a fantastic holiday, but protecting my health means I'll most likely be able to take the same holiday anyway in perhaps 2022 after everything has settled down with much more peace of mind and been educated by this crisis on how to protect myself with hand washing, sanitiser and perhaps a new vaccine.
