Which airline programs will need less points?

I need to fly from Adelaide to Hong Kong and return in November. I have points in American Express and is able to transfer to Krisflyer, Malaysian Enrich miles or Cathay. Where should I transfer to get the reward flight with the least points & taxes? Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi tripper2010, welcome to AFF.

I think Krisflyer needs the least - as both Cathay and Malaysian transfer points at 4:3 whereas Krisflyer is 1:1. And I think they may require less points anyway even without worrying about dilution.

However the best advice I can give you is check for availablity first before doing any transfers. No good getting them into the cheapest program if there is no availabity. This far out the availability probably won't disappear in the few days it takes for the points to get across.

Try Virgin Atlantic as well - you can transfer Amex points into their Flying Club. You will need to fly Virgin Blue or someone else from Adelaide to Sydney though... Points transfer from Amex into Flying Club on a 1:1 basis.
