I'd like to get people's thoughts on this Fairfax blog from yesterday. For me, it reads as though if travel is losing its excitement, then it might be an idea to try something else. The comments on the blog are a bit of a grab-bag - some talking about some people's only reason for travel is to impress other people, and some discussion of the "travel w***er".

There is still a lot of places that I haven't been to yet, and even when I still go back to the same places like Auckland, London or Amsterdam I still get a buzz from it.

Never. Well, not for me, anyway. Travel will always be exhilarating – although there are some things that don't excite me as much as they used to. (And voicing these things unfortunately marks you out as an incredible travel wanker.)

Pretty well all of my travel is work-related, so to me it depends on where I'm going and how many times I've been there before.

For example, as facinating as India is to a lot of people, my excitement dulled very rapidly by arriving into Bangalore at 2am Monday morning, working Mon-Fri at the same place 5km's from the hotel and battling endless traffic for 45 mins each way, then flying out Saturday morning at 2am. Try doing that 5 times in 6 months and see if you're still full of excitement about the place! :(

On the otherhand, there are numerous places in the world that I'm happy to visit or re-visit. I think if travel does constantly become a bit 'meh' then it would be time to give it up...

(BTW, zebras don't do it for me either....:D)

Most of my work travel is from perth to either North Ryde or Lidcombe. Enough said.

I don't think I will ever lose excitement in travel. Many places to visit and so little time available that golf trips are taking precedence. Can't wait to start booking Oneworld awards and visiting some new places again.

But some things can be become boring. There is only so much time one should spend in a lounge in such a short space of time. It can get extremely boring and I cannot wait for boarding call. Planning trips better helps but one needs to allow enough connection time just in case there are delays.

A bit boring returning back to Perth? I know the feeling quite well when I arrive back in Brisbane every Sunday....

There is always somewhere else to go. Travel will never be boring.

Been to SYD 70+ times, mostly for work, but where did I take my kids on their first flights this year? SYD. And I saw it from a totally different perspective.

I consider myself fairly well-travelled (well within my cirlcle anyway) - been to most of the US / Western Europe / Asia major haunts - still never been to ADL, HOB, PER or DRW.

See if i had to travel for golf it would be "meh" straight away! but then i hate golf! :p

Personally I never lose the buzz of travelling overseas.. Love it, even returning to places I've been to before. The MEL-SYD commute feels more like routine these day, but certainly not "Meh" (so i prefer it to golf trips!).

Even after all these years I love going to new places. I don't really enjoy getting there (especially as the company only pays for economy) - the travel part can be a pain. The destination is what I look forward to. And like some others, regular travel for work is something that quickly loses its appeal - I went through a stage of flying Perth- Karratha every two weeks for several months.

I was born in Sydney, and love the place in a lot of ways. But when your task is to travel to Sydney, drive to the Western or South Western suburbs for work and return to the airport it's a very ordinary visit.

I fly around Australia fortnightly on average for business. I put up with a lot of "off again are you" gibes. Yup, waking to the 4.30am alarm and getting back in the middle of peak hour is a mighty glamorous lifestyle.

Still, the points make it worthwhile, and next March I'm off to Europe J class with my wife courtesy of Velocity. Pretty good consolation.

Definitely Meh for this DYKWIA tonight. I'm stuck in the dingy NZ Koru Club Lounge at MEL. Not a Zebra to be seen. :p

I heard zebras really didn't interest you anyway ;)

I am not at an airport, won't be another month, could someone turn down the noise.

I saw monkeys last week and this week as well at Bangpra golf course along with iguanas who I first thought were crocodiles as my eyesight is failing me.

Golf is not for everyone. It makes me extremely relaxed even if I am frustrated and leaving the bar/restaurant at ~10:30am and returning at ~6:00pm makes my day really worthwhile.

I dread the day I will not be able to play golf....

If it makes you feel relaxed you're obviously not playing right
