What's your golden travel rule?

The only thing is drying them. Most of my clothes say no tumble dry so I am always looking for inventive places in hotel rooms to hang them.

Leave a/c on heat obviously in the winter months. Summer, just put on hanger and hang from the window.

I normally have my passport and phone with me at all times. I will normally carry some limited cash, local and what ever major convertible currency is left over from previous trips. I always carry a spare pair of glasses as I struggle to see without them, in the past I have lost or broken glasses while travelling.

Good point about a spare pair of specs; I do that too. I only need them for reading small print, so I can at least get pharmac_ specs if required.

Another of my travel rules is never help anyone with their luggage, such as lifting down a carryon from the overhead bin or lifting a bag off the belt. Chances are that I could hurt myself if it proved heavy or awkward, while the 'little old lady' owner just waltzes off. If someone can't manage their own luggage, they should revise their travel.

Saved me last December when I dropped my main phone on the Hotel airport shuttle bus. when I noticed at security,I was able to call the hotel and let them know and the shuttle Driver dropped it off in his next loop.

It's said in Christianity that the golden commandment (or the "11th commandment") was shared by Jesus, and now usually stated as, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". I'm sure many other religions have a similar "commandment" and I can't imagine too many secular people rejecting that it is a good maxim to live by.

I wish one could say that is the golden rule of travel (yes, one could apply it to all of life). That's because one's enjoyment of travel often boils down to everyone doing right by one another, much more than what the law dictates. We all know this very well when flying. Idiots may fly and just might face punishment (let alone adequate and just punishment), but if they'd considered everyone they probably wouldn't act up in the first place. The errant seem to take more liberties in the air since there isn't a police force and courts mere minutes away.

If I plan on taking my shoes off (eg overnight flight) grab a pair of hotel slippers. Use on the flight for trips to the bathroom and leave on your flight at the end.
