..... it has been over an hour late into BNE every day recently. Is something going on at HKG that prevents on time departures?

Not what i want to hear. Im on QF98 on my return from HKG in a few weeks and then i transfer to a domestic to SYD. 1 PNR so i should be ok but still not what you want to hear.

Looking at the stats both QF128 & QF98 have departed late the last week or so, QF128 is generally smaller delay than QF98. So likely an issue in HKG.
QF97 looks to leave relatively on time but QF127 looks to leave late in the last week or so although its only be a 30 min delay.

a lack of competent ATC plus overcrowded airspace into HK is likely the issue, the 98 leaves at peak time

I flew QF098 several times in 2013 and was rarely (if ever) late into BNE. Has much changed in the last couple of years or even weeks?

I was on QF 97 couple days ago and it was 90 mins late departing due to control surface issues. Maybe this affected the turnaround in HKG

Two weeks ago we were told ATC and overcrowding was the cause of delay coming in to HKG on EK flight from BKK. If the delay is significant that would impact on delay for ourbound flight.

When you say lack of competent ATC in HKG, do you mean they have a shortage of ATC (who doesn't!) or they are carrying some who are incompetent?

It isn't the expat haunt that it was once. There was a time when it didn't seem much different to London.

ATC varies around the world. They may well be perfectly competent, but the overall system may be poor. Don't think I've ever hit a controller who didn't strike me as being up to the job, but I've certainly seen a lot of rubbish rules and procedures.

I often hear the PA delayed because ATC slowed us down or something similar when I know for a fact it is bull. HKG is in a tricky bit of airspace with limited routes and levels in to China for EUR bound flights. Throw in Hurricane season and it would be a mess for anyone. You are right about the Expat Exodus- money on offer not what it was, and the localisation of the control group has made things interesting.
