I am heading to NYC in January for 6 nights and have my eye on the new Marriott at Broadway & 54th St. This building houses a Courtyard hotel (floors 6-32) and a Residence Inn (floors 36-64).

What's the difference bw Marriott Residence Inn vs Courtyard hotels?

I've never stayed in either, so I've got no point of comparison. I have read the info on the Marriott site and it's still not clear to me what the similarities/differences are between these two brands. I really wish they would have a comparison check list!

Price is not so much a deciding factor as the rates vary depending on what room you choose at each hotel - views of Times Square, Central Park, the Hudson etc. And I still dithering over what I want.

I am travelling solo, so I don't need a huge amount of space. Having visited NYC a number of times, I know hotel rooms can be small but I've never had issues with any of the rooms at hotels I've stayed in the past, and the room sizes at these hotels seem more than adequate.

Thanks, pollywaffle.

I have stayed in both Courtyard and Residence Inn's (although a few years ago). Courtyard is billed as a "business" hotel and are a decent size and pretty comfortable. One thing I did find is that there was no fridge in the room but the hotel could organise to put one in for your stay for no extra charge. Residence Inn is more of a long stay hotel - The room was a little larger and more suited for extended stays. The one I stayed in had a full size fridge and kitchenette to prepare your own food. I personally found the Courtyard more comfortable, though it was a newer hotel than the Residence Inn that I stayed at.

As the other poster mentioned, Courtyard is more of a business hotel with regular rooms while Residence Inns are extended-stay hotels. One big difference for us is that Residence Inns provide free breakfast, while Courtyards don't.

Breakfast might be a selling point in other places but it's not a selling point for me in NYC. :)

I might just go for whichever is cheaper.

One thing that has not been mentioned is that Residence Inn stays only earn 5 points per $ while Courtyard earns 10 points per $

And Residence inn from my experience have small kitchens, whereas courtyard don't.
