I have a booking for this flight.

Myself, husband and 10 month old have a booking on 1 reference number and i booked my sister to come wih us and she has her own reference number.

The accounts are linked to show we are travelling together.

Looking at Seat Expert Flyer in the seat maps and we are in 51 H J . K was showing as empty until today when i logged in and now someone has allocated this window seat!

How will this pan out?? I was hoping my sister would get 51K allocated to her to help out on the flight. Why would anyone pick a window seat on a bassinet row??

Why wouldn't they select a window seat in that row?

It would seem that unless the person in the window seat moves, your sister will need to find another seat.

What would happen when my daughter is sleeping in the bassinet and 51K wants to get up?

From my knowledge there isn't too much room to get around the bassinet. If it was my sister and she needed to get up, she could probably crawl under the bassinet.

I would assume it would be a WP or P1 in this seat. Would he/she get on their hands and knees and crawl? I think not!!

If he needed to get up i would need to get her out, close the bassinet and wake her up.

She has travelled many times (this trip will make a total of 15 flights for her) and she slept on every single one.

My question is, will the move 51K or should i phone and request seats to be moved to the middle rows?

I phoned before and they said they would probably move them if they were not travelling with an infant (which they aren't as there is only 1 bassinet).

Bassinet rows do have that extra bit of room, hence why people take the gamble on selecting them if available.

They would not know that you have an infant in your booking as that info is not available to them.

Unless they decide to move it may be a bit of a waiting game for you.

Thanks!

I think i'll just wait and see what happens and do the T-80 and T- 24 checks.

I would be happy to move to the middle seats as expert flyer shows them available but Qantas said they cant move us???

I'll ask in the lounge at Perth when w depart as well.

As i said, I don't think i would take a chance in booking a bassinet row, especially long haul, but i guess when the other side exit row is $180 or advanced seat selection $25 i know which one i would choose!

Expert Flyer isn't always 100% accurate.

As for the bassinet, it is free for those with PS status or above.

People always like choosing bassinet rows due to there being slightly more leg room plus the added advantage of nobody in the row in front who will recline their seat. It's more than likely a WP who has allocated 51K in the hope that the people in 51HJ are not travelling with an infant.

Did you pay the $25.00 to have 51HJ allocated to you or are you PS or above & get free seat allocation? Easy to say now but it may have been easier to get your sister seated in 51K than to leave it until T-24 when OLCI opens.

Don't rely on the pax in 51K moving - they may really want that seat. It would also depend what other seats are available for 51K to move to. Obviously they wouldn't give up a window seat if their only other option was a middle seat especially on a 15 hour flight.

Thanks for the replies!

I didnt really want to be next to some poor person with a baby either and have him/her stuck in the window seat!

When i called customer service yesterday they said no to moving us to the middle bassinet seats which were empty and said do it at OLCI time.

Called back today and got a really nice guy who organised for our seats to be moved to the middle section D & E!

Yes, i prefer a window seat but im happy to not be bothering other people :)

Just depends on who you get in customer service as to how much they can help!

Dont worry, ill smile at the guy in K when i board and think how lucky he is that i changed seats :)

I was wondering why they couldn't move you to the centre bassinet rows but it's glad that you've now got those seats. Did you get your sister seated next to you this time?

I don't understand the 'logic' of the res agent telling you to get the bassinet seats at OLCI - there's no time like the present!

I'm quite sure that the remaining bassinet rows (not already allocated to pax already via reservations) are blocked off in Altea at T-80 for use at the airport so they wouldn't be available for anyone to allocate at OLCI T-24. That however works out better for people travelling with infants who really need the BSCT rows as it prevents other pax allocating them for themselves when they don't really need it.

I didn't realise I was causing such a rigmarole! I'm sorry. m(_ _)m

Haha all sorted!!

You will owe me a drink now in the lounge now that we moved far far away from you in 51K!! (well 5 seats away) Just imagine how great the trip would have been if you were stuck in the window seat for 15 hours :)))
