What oneworld awards will you book from 31 Mar?

I just read on the “View from the Wing” blog that USDM has confirmed that its existing award routing rules will remain even after they join oneworld. Like me, I expect many of you would be quite excited about the changeover and the new possibilities this brings. Many of you would have probably already planned what products and cabins you would redeem awards on as well as what routings you would fly on to maximise use of your miles. Anyone willing to share what itineraries they plan on booking from 31 Mar? I am hoping to get some inspiration on planning my own grand itinerary and getting the best value out of my miles.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I remain skeptical that if you call up next month that you will be able to do exactly what you want to do....

more importantly, what search tools does everyone use for OW?

atm I'm using Qantas but it's clunky as hell, heard BA Avois is good, anything better?

Just out of interest, what is the availability like on JL NRT-GUM in Y and J? That's the only OW route in or out of GUM and SPN.

BAEC is pretty good.

I'm guessing it's OK but won't be for much longer? :p

I search on a few random weeks in October - there's only 1 flight per day but availability is actually pretty good - 2 x J seats (no Y) about four days per week. I will be very interested to see what happens on Monday....

Ah yes, your scepticism is obvious and scepticism is in itself not really a bad thing. But aside from that and leaving aside the fact that it seems they might not quite be ready on 31st March, there is more statements that you will be able to book reward flight sometime (somewhat after) April 1st on Oneworld at the existing published miles rate than not. So in my view scepticism is fine until we see it, but the extension of scepticism to "you wont be able to do this" ventures into unfounded speculation IMO.

Of course US Air COULD not join Oneworld but it's not likely. Of course US COULD not use the award charts they have said they will use and have published (and no doubt at some stage actually will) but the chance that is going to happen between now and 31st March is looking increasingly unlikely. Constant speculation that US will change its award charts will no doubt eventually be proved correct but that could be 6 months to a year off, how many people do you want to scare off US before that happens. In the mentime it's likely that the speculation will prove wrong on quite a number of intervening days, does the one day of being right offset the many days of being wrong? Not in my opinion.

It doesn't mean I won't be ringing up myself on Tuesday to see what I can swing it just means I'm not that confident everything will switch to OW on Day 1!

When i called the other day the agent offered me a CX flight i got really excited then at the last minute it didn't let him book it.

I think you may be pleasantly surprised

I find the BAEC site to be really useful if you know the dates that you want to travel, or flexible dates for BA only. It is also good for partner travel (MH and CX particularly). QF is better for flexible dates on QF, BA and CX. AA is pretty good for BA, AA, QF, US and Iberia, no JL, CX or MH. Basically I use all three to check a route.

Agree this is best approach. I've had fair bit of experience in projects so would by no means be surprised by them not delivering on time, this would be a large one and integrating to Oneworld would be a significant job for a company not known for being great at IT changes.

But it's only a matter of time IMO, we just need to be patient!

So.... overseas SWP destinations in OW? All I'm seeing is NZ (various), NRT-GUM, SYD/BNE-NOU.

Any others?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

And I believe AA have verrrry strict routing rules on ways to get from Australia to Europe (i.e. cant go via Middle East)

They are strict in that you can only connect in some cities in Asia. By connection that means a change in flight numbers. MEL or SYD to LHR and vice versa on QF1/2/9/10 are not considered to "connect" in DXB even though the plane stops there, because they are booked as one flight number.

You can go via the Middle East using AA miles, but you can't use the Australia to Europe routing rules (and hence lower mileage requirements). You have to price it as two awards with the ME in the middle. But I guess one upside to doing so is that you can have a stop in the ME, eg. AUH or DOH. See some posts here for more info:
