Due to an excessive travel schedule in the last six months, I am in grave danger of reaching WP status by the end of this year!

My question to you, o so wise AFF peeps is, what should I aim for next? My partner is already LTG and LTQP in her own right; so no goals there.

My own travel is mostly domestic with some SEA and once per year to North America. Our joint travel is much the same.

Apart from maintaining WP status and working towards LTG - curently 80% LTS, what should I be aiming for?

Many thanks in advance for the wise advice.

Conventional wisdom would suggest building up some miles on AAdvantage using your surplus flights due to the better earn/burn ratio.

Or build up status on another alliance? Not much point having status if you don't get to sit back and enjoy the use of it though... but I've found it handy having some sort of status outside OW.

If you get to WP, I’d aim to use that status to the best of your abilities using the cheap JQ flights between SYD and MEL to sample the F lounge when you’re free :p

However, as QF009 states, maybe you should look at another airline/loyalty program?

Stick to Qantas if you are able to reach and maintain Platinum level every year. If you are flying Qantas regularly then you will more than likely get most of the benefits on offer for your Platinum status.

Better earn/burn ratio? That would entirely depend on the booking class of the airfares. I would hazard a guess that most people do not want to pay for higher class airfares just to be able to credit to AAdvantage.

Qantas does unofficially look after high SC earning WP's quite well. So there may be some merits in still crediting to QF. Also, since you are so close to LTG, it's probably worthwhile getting that ASAP in case QF changes the rules...

Otherwise, like has been suggested - look into AA.

Does anyone know when LTP (Life Time Platinum) was removed? i have meet/know a few people with it, and wonder if its ever a chance now days..

I am QP Life member, and Plat now.. but LTP would be really nice (still need to make LTS and LTG first.. but over 1/2 way to silver already)

Thanks
Fuzz

I don't know if it ever existed, nor do I know if it was ever removed. I only heard "rumours" it existed in a non-published manner.

I wish we had a Qantas insider who knew what was going on, and was willing to discuss! ;)

A person I know is 'unofficially' LTP, I guess. He's CL also but has been told he will always remain WP, even if CL is removed (which doesn't look like it would be any time soon).

It has never existed as a published status within Qantas. AA last a lifetime platinum but that is still a sapphire level

If you have met several people who claim to have it, I would be very surprised if it is true and would see if you can get them to show a card showing lifetime platinum

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

I think there could be LTP associated with CL membership for a number of years, but even CL is a task to get to, especially as no one knows the exact requirements, other than for companies.

Other programs that have had LTP have since done away with it, such as CX. I know a guy who is Diamond Invitational because back in the day he was Lifetime Diamond, but they no longer offer such a status. Or any lifetime status. Officially at least.

I understand that CL is lifetime. Back in the day I used to travel a lot with a CL member who kept his CL long after he had retired from a "big job".

Many thanks for all the tips on what to do next. 99.9% of my travel is with QF and JQ, so I will stay with them. Did hear some unsettling rumours at work that we were shifting to DJ!!

CL is not lifetime, there was a thread recently about QP tightening up on who has CL and taking it away from a lot of people. It's very much so a case by case basis and as always YMMV

Saw my boss's QF profile last night. He has clocked 5000SCs so far with his year ending Aug! Most travel is domestic Y with 3 J trips to LHR.

Yikes

Hi Dave,

Yes i have seen it, was a guy that did a LOT of travel in the 80's and 90's.. he is in his 50's now..

That is impressive!

I regularly used to requalify for Old Gold with many Y domestic flights. Not too hard if you have many (many) Y flights, especially east to west vv or Darwin etc. The J overseas does give it a boost.

That's pretty impressive, but to be honest, I feel sorry for your boss. Do you work in a consulting firm?

To be honest, and with all due respect to the other posters who have suggested this, but what's the point of getting the status if you then switch to another airline just for the sake of getting more status? Once you get to WP, you start getting half decent service and you start earning 100% bonus points for upgrades and free trips, so in my view, stick to it.

Cheers,

JOBU
