Just wondering if anyone can help me out. I'm trying out expert flyer to get alerts for NZ award space released to Star Alliance partners. What class of booking am I looking for here?

Do I use the flight availability function or the awards and upgrades function to search and set up alerts? When I go on to the awards availability tab and do an NZ search it says 'Business - Awards using Airpoints & Comp upgrades for Golds' in the description space. Are these the same as what are released to aeroplan and united etc? thanks for any advice on this.

Air NZ are well known for *not* releasing award seat to partners.
When do you want to travel and from/to? Some awards may show at short notice

With Air NZ ffp every seat is an award seat. NZ 1 airpoint = NZD$1.00. Other ffp's are different.

Thanks all. Did a test run comparing NZ award space on AKL-LAX in Nov, (that was showing on that site that scrapes the data off avianca etc) and then checked on expert flyer, where it was showing as I space. Then went to United where the award was showing for 99k United miles but wasn't showing on Aeroplan. Thought 99k United miles was a bit high compared to 55k miles via AS to go NZ-US (if you can in fact even find any availability. It seems to be like hens teeth).

Did find though that the award scraper site would be hugely helpful if you want to book short notice ie up to two months before travel, by looking on the award scraper site then going and checking the NZ partner portal and booking using the NZ partner award chart. Some of the LH premium space shows on that partner award portal on airnz site, for reasonable airpoints prices. I think you have to be NZ based so you can buy the airpoints via kiwibank. Not sure what all the ts & cs are though for NZ partner awards.

Agree though that NZ's airpoints revenue based loyalty program is pretty cough compared to everyone else. Will be interesting to see what changes they come up with. They are missing out on the opportunity to sell airpoints to the whole world and have effectively interest free funding, the way they run things. Aeroplan and others have set a new benchmark. As soon as the main players, EY, AA, United, QR etc return to NZ routes it's going to put the pressure on as there will be a lot more options to get out of New Zealand.
