I have booked 4 days ( Sat. - Tues.) in windy Wellington in late November with a friend . Any recommendations as to where to stay ? Would prefer an apartment as opposed to a hotel room . Suggested places to eat & watering holes ? Places to visit & must do's ?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I love L'otel to stay at, eat at Logan Brown where the food is great and Te Papa the museum is a fun half day of poking about... Then wander along Cuba street for fun eating and drinking. A climb up Mount Victoria is nice on a clear day if you are feeling energetic

I saw an article on Wellington in the latest Voyeur magazine (flick to page 65) after reading this post and meant to post the link here but forgot until now:

I'm a former Wellington boy myself, has changed a lot since I left just under 30 years ago. Now a real foodie town, recommend Cuba St for cafes and Floridita's to eat, Courtney Place is the place to go at night. I'm really not up with the best but there are a huge number of restaurants, bars & cafes and my general rule is to follow the crowds. Great to walk around, try a few bars then find somewhere to eat.

Lots of things to see in do in the city and surrounding area especially if the weather behaves

We have some great eating to cover all budgets but my own favourites include The White House, Martin Bosley's, Logan Brown, Hippopotamus, and Boulcott St Bistro (at the top end)

Apparently we have some fairly decent bars here too but I wouldnt know about that...OK since you asked Motel Bar (quirky but stylish and excellent drinks), Havana, Vivo Winebar, Goodluck Bar and Matterhorn

4 days is quite a long stay but you'll love it. Depending on the dates happy to show you some places (like the wind turbine for which you really need a car)
