Just phoned QFF Plat line to bag row 4 at T80 as the website is down, and was told those seats were only available to our higher tear members such as CL and P1 not to members like me who are only Platinum.

I tried to explain that normally they open up at this time and the lady asked me to repeat myself "slowly" a few times when I tried to explain about T80! I felt like a little schoolboy who was asking for something I shouldn't! I know that these seats don't always open up at this time and I was nothing but polite but I maybe was thinking that with at least 5 bookings in the system and being polite she could of put me in them as the website was down?

This is only the second time I have phoned the Plat line and I have come away not feeling any love! Maybe I am expecting too much! Does anyone actually get a better service on the Plat line than they would using the normal QFF number?

I am a very newly minted WP and have only phoned the plat line once to ask to be allocated 2A and 3A for a Hong Kong flight I had on a pay later scheme, so I couldn't use select seats. They were incredibly nice and helpful and did it for me, so my one experience was very positive.

I guess the "tear" vs tier shows how much you hate CLs and P1s!!! :D

:pIt was my auto spell check honest! I have nothing but respect for CLs and P1s and genuinely don't want more than I am entitled to!

Just making me wonder if its worth going for P1 this year.

I wouldn't be sure that the WP line actually knows about T-80...

T-80, IMO, is a glitch. I implore you to say nothing, and know nothing, to qantas.

Was it definitely the platinum desk?......ringing the WP number doesn't necessarily guarantee you'll get to speak to someone on the platinum desk.

I wouldn't be so sure about QF not knowing about it.

As for the OP, I would imagine that the IT issues today have probably stuffed your chances of getting into row 4 for the time being.

Thanks all

I will put it down to the IT issues today putting pressure on them, and regarding Qantas knowing about T80 I have previously had a conversation about this with them when booking so I know they are aware.

Cheers

I posted my experiences in another thread a while back.

As far as I can tell the call centre is not aware about T-80 hours and told me the same thing they told you. She eventually did it to get rid of me.

With your own money? Difficult choice unless you were real close.

T-80 seems to be a side effect. It is supposed to be on the zone system until OLCI starts 24 hours out.

It actually goes onto the OLCI method once the flight moves to airport control at T-80.

Rarely ring the WP line, I try to do these things on line and find that T-80 generally works better at T-79.50 hours.

And if I don't get the seat I want I keep trying every few hours until I do. Generally T-24 is also worth a look as well.

Last week on a MEL-CBR the plane changed and I ended up two rows ahead of where I was previously. As always YMMV.

I have rang the WP line and been nothing but surprised at how much similar there service was to the normal line.

I had a flight that was changed and had to ring up and I did that and it become a stuff around so I ended up just waiting for them to ring me.

What IT issues? I tried checking in for flight tomorrow night on Dash-8 and I have been assigned 4C with first 3 blocked and row 10 also blocked. Every other seat is vacant. It would appear that T-80 hours is not working for this flight.

I guess there are some weird glitches occasionally.

OK I give up. What does T80 signify?

80 hours before scheduled departure time, all seats in the cabin open up for selection regardless of status and booking class.

I think it's a bit of a stretch to say all seats open up, although if you are one of the more valuable people (from a QF perspective) on the flight it may seem that way. I can assure you that for Gold and Silver members (and I assume Bronze), nowhere near all the seats open up.

Indeed correct.

You get a better selection, but not everything.

Though curiously earlier this week at T-80 I had pick of the plane...then 2 minutes later I was restricted heavily once more (but still more choice than earlier)
