Hi folks,

So, I was on QF51 from BNE to SIN yesterday, and was resigned to a normal economy seat as the best I could get with 'select seats' or OLCI was 26J (I'm a lowly QC PS, so it's not all that surprising).

I decided to go with it, but asked the excellent check in person if they happened to have an exit or 23A/K available, just in case (I love the window bulkhead and exit rows on Qantas A333s, because the window-side armrest folds up and gives quite a bit more space) - she got on the phone, and asked about 23K, saying it was showing up as reserved - she got asked which seat I wanted to move from, then went ahead and gave me 23K...

So, that lead to a fairly comfy flight, but I'm still a bit puzzled - I thought I had a reasonable handle on QF seating allocation, but I don't really understand how this one happened. Any thoughts?

The guy next to me did seem to have fairly high status, as one of the crew came back and greeted by name, but if they'd blocked the seat for him surely they wouldn't have let me take it?

Cheers,

Danny

At T-24 lots of reserved seats become available to me, so surely the same thing happened, after all, it’s blocked off for a bit, but at some point they have to open it up to anyone else that wants it.

Yeah, I've had good luck with grabbing 23A/K at T-24 in the past, but today it was showing as unavailable all the way up to leaving for the airport at T-3...
