Interesting. I don't know much about this flight but if it was shot down by a missile...

Which has likely prevented other accidents. I don't usually buy conspiracy stories, but who really knows what happened...

Interesting stuff. It seems most unlikely and I also don't support conspiracy theories, but a very good friend of mine who was an experienced ATC working at the time insisted to me that he'd personally seen the radar tracks of a missile on that day. I bought him another beer and we changed topics. Chissà!

I can remember all sorts of theories around back then pushed by my American friends. Remember that photo of the people by the beach with the "missile trail" in the background?

I still find Egypt Air 990 to be scarier still. Same general airspace.

At face value, and without delving into it. What kind of missile? Any small Shoulder Launched or even an AAMRAM is going to target an engine. I guess maybe collateral damage to the wing tanks though.

IR655 is probably closer comparison to the recent conspiracy theory and goes to show that it is pretty hard to shoot down a civil jet and not be noticed. The cascading sequence of system and human errors was a "worry" but could happen again tomorrow...! (But very unlikely for TWA incident)

In the docu to come out, they say the damage to the plane is more consistent with a high velocity impact.
99.9% of conspiracy are probably BS.
However every now and again one out of hundred/thousand is proven right.
