My daughter and partner have a one way flight from Amsterdam to Brisbane in July 2017. They have an economy booking and not sure category of economy booking if it is an upgradable fare.

If they can upgrade to premium economy then the points will need to come from me. I can transfer points from Amex or Westpac to my Asia Miles account but as a novice with Asia Miles I do not know if my account can be used for the benefit of my daughter and partner (I know Singapore Airlines allows me up to 5 redemption nominees).

I could transfer QANTAS FF points to my daughter's QANTAS FF account but booking is through a travel agent and no QANTAS FF details noted on booking. Again no knowledge if my daughter could arrange the upgrade using QANTAS FF points.

Keen to upgrade so they can have extra luggage to bring me back some special beer from the Trappist Brewery in Tilburg!

Any advice or tips appreciated.

You don't need to transfer points. If it's a Qantas booking, all you need is the booking reference number and surname the booking is made in.
Then, you log into YOUR frequent flyer account, not the passenger's.
Navigate to Your Bookings in your frequent flyer account, even if you have no bookings: https://www.qantas.com/fflyer/do/dyns/auth/yourbookings/yourBookings
There's a box: Upgrade a family member. Follow your nose from there.

Saying all that, is this a Cathay booking, as you posted in the Cathay section. If so, you can't upgrade Cathay using Qantas points.
Further notes: Qantas don't fly to Amsterdam, so you won't be able to upgrade that leg at all (whichever airline). If they flew Emirates to Dubai then Qantas home, you could upgrade that leg (but Qantas don't fly Dubai to Brisbane).

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I can transfer points from Amex or Westpac to my Asia Miles account

As you have posted this in the Cathay forum, and mentioned Asia Miles I will assume that they are travelling CX from AMS to BNE via HKG, on CX metal the whole way.

QF points are not usable in this case.

Asia Miles does indeed support redemption groups - so you can add daughter and partner - but Asia Miles will only be of use if the flight is booked on CX flight numbers as well as CX metal. Upgrades are only allowed for booking classes Y, B, H, K and M - so of the more expensive type, but if it is a one way flight booking (i.e. not part of anything else), they may be booked in these classes.

(You can also upgrade BA flights using Asia Miles, in from even more restricted Y, B and H classes, but I doubt BA enters into this equation).

If by slim chance, the fares are in an appropriate booking class, I would suggest calling the Asia Miles service centre to see if there is any likelihood of an upgrade being available before transferring points.
