VX domestic to DL International

Hi all,

I have some family on a Delta flight LAX - SYD in September

I need to get them from LAS to LAX for the flight. It will be a separate ticket.

Any experience with through checking bags all the way and getting boarding passes at LAS with Virgin America ?

There are Delta code shares eg DL on some airlines but not on Delta metal. Would that be safer ? More expensive than VX though

Have flown DL metal LAX/LAS last flight of the night so I'd say DL would also fly LAS/LAX as well so you'd have a better chance of DL checking through to DL but I'm not 100% sure if DL do this on separate pnrs.
