I'm heading up to Brisbane this weekend for the AFL final at the GABBA (go Tiges).
Managed to book decent flights at a decent price leaving Saturday 10.10am and coming back the following day at 12.10pm.
Obviously flights are hideously expensive and their was/is a huge demand.
I just got a text from QF asking if I would like to move my flight out of BNE to the Monday at 7.10am.
'Compensation' is a $75 QF voucher.
I have no intention of taking up this offer, but considered it pretty measly.
I can't imagine too many other pax taking up the offer either.
Has anyone else had these types of offers before?

Does seem quite a long time between your flight and the one offered, but perspective might be different if you were Brisbane based, or have relatives you were staying with. But $75 does seem on the low side.

Wow - looking at loadings, at the time of this search they are selling only 14 economy seats on 12 flights. That is out of at least 2330 Y seats.

(There's a 332 at 10:10am.)

I was at SLC in Utah earlier this year when a call came over to "please help us out over here at Delta". Giving up the direct flight into EWR for a likely more circuitous route (or possibly even next day, unsure) would have delivered up compensation of a USD$1,000 voucher. Tempted, but I had somewhere to be.

I had a call from Qantas before a ALK-BNE flight earlier this year - 'volunteer to change to a ALK-SYD (overnight in SYD) SYD-BNE or risk getting bumped' with no offer of of any compensation for a family of 4 other than the accom

So $75 is a better offer than I got. But still I wouldn't be accepting that.

I've heard AA announcements in the US offering upwards of $USD500 for people who will give up their seat and fly the next day on domestic routes. As with @Ausbt above I'd have jumped on it if I had the time.

$75.00, no chance.

With those loads you should offer to be voluntarily bumped - up to business class!

Interesting, what is your status?

I wonder how much Qantas is selling those seats for? $500 or more each? And they'll offer you $75 :( in a voucher.

A pathetic offer, especially because you know Qantas will profit from your generosity. That is: they get you to free up a seat for $75 and they sell the spare seat for $500+ to someone desperate to buy a seat.

Most likely already oversold.

However the 11am flight is going for $970 in Y.

So they want to delay you a day and pocket the $900 themselves. Rude.

Wow - looking at loadings, at this time they are selling only 14 economy seats on 12 flights. There's a 332 at 10:10am. That is out of at least 2330 Y seats.
Never under estimate the commitment of an true AFL fan
But QANTAS's offer sucks - someone there should at least understand the context of what they are offering (I'm guessing it's not a southern States based person/call centre). It's not like those teams will be playing again sometime soon :)

I would be putting in an offer for a classic rewards style upgrade to J class, and if asked, would be telling Qantas that you didn't come down in the last rain shower and their offer is a joke/missing a zero....

For me, staying an extra night would mean double that $75 in accommodation and then there is basics like food etc.
It's not even half tempting

I was offered money to change flights earlier this year with SMS from Qantas. Wasn't sure if it was legitimate and by the time I'd decided it was too late.

I'd take the $75 if offered flights around my flight with a good chance of getting rebooked into a flexible class as has happened in the past.

I remember some years ago there was one of these types of games in Perth. It was actually cheaper to fly via Singapore, than Qantas direct.

You mean flying PER-SIN-SYD/MEL than PER-MEL ?

I'd something similar, it was much cheaper to fly SYD-AKL-MEL than SYD-MEL :D

The offer is really only attractive if you were considering swapping anyway but didn’t want to pay a change fee/fare difference.

If they can free up some of those at $75 then QF will make a killing.

VA is the official carrier of the AFL - what is their capacity looking like at a similar time?
