Hi AFF,
Happy mothers day! In mid June we're flying BNE - SIN - AMS and return AMS - SIN - BNE via Perth.
As a VA member I booked VA tickets to earn points and to be able to use my 160k for a possible upgrade for myself and my wife.
I was fully aware that these flights are operated by SQ and it was cheaper to book straight through SQ.. .(PER - BNE on VA)

After booking, it turns out that neither VA nor SQ are able to help with possible upgrades using points or even preferred seating.
VA cant look up SQ seating and SQ cant login to the VA booking system. Totally hopeless!

Velocity also gives me two free lounge access passes... can I use these prior to our departure or in one of the stopovers?

Would anybody be able to give me some advice or come up with a solution?
Could I convert my velocity points to krisflyer and go from there?

Beginning to think that velocity is not the greatest program to be a member of as there are no international flights on VA other than the codeshare ones.

Your help is very much appreciated!
Thank you in advance!

Can you confirm that you are booked on the VA codeshare flights (on SQ metal) and with a VA ticket number?

Thanks for your quick reply.
Yep the booking says VA5666 and operated by Singapore Airlines...
Same for all sectors except for PER to BNE

:-(

Unfortunately you can only use Velocity points to upgrade on long haul international if you are on VA metal and you also need to be a Gold or Platinum velocity member. I think I have seen somewhere people having luck getting the SQ PNR number and using that to secure seats on the SQ website for code share VA booking, but I am not sure of the details sorry. I am sure someone here can probably assist :)

Can't help with upgrades but the Singapore Airlines app lets you select seats if you have the PNR.

Oh thats sounds promising.. Any idea where I might be able to find the PNR...?

Perfect! Will call tomorrow and let you now how I go!
Thanks so much for helping us out here everybody!

The VA codeshares on SQ metal are only useful if you are looking for eligible sectors for VA status and/or you are looking to get a VA status bonus on the points earned.

Otherwise, I would always book with SQ direct. This will allow you get select your seats at the time of booking, to pay for exit row seats etc and SQ will acknowledge your existence prior to check in.

As a VA WP, I have generally had some sort of seat assigned at the time of booking (through Expedia, the VA website and the VA call centre). It should be noted that SQ only allow preallocation to about a third of the seats in the aircraft, so I have had times where even booking with SQ direct has not helped.

Thank you!
Tried using the SQ app but it still says that I can't change anything as its booked through a partner airline...
Can anybody tell me how to go about this trick...?
:)

You still need the SQ PNR for this

As for your 2 lounge passes ... they will not be any use except before your PER BNE flight. they are only valid for VA lounges and VA does not operate any International lounges

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
