Virgin suspends all domestic flights except Syd-Mel (6 times a week)

I get it over Easter and up to Anzac weekend with lockdowns and school hols but out to mid June ,surely this is now a grave situation

Virgin Atlantic have also cancelled all passenger flights but only for the next week. They are still operating cargo flights though.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Writing has been on the wall for sometime, even before current crisis. I hope people have listened to the AFF warnings for the past month and dumped their points if they were concerned and risk adversed. Otherwise hanging on and hoping for the best is an extreme risk. Make your own decision, but way too much risk for me. As detailed in the other thread I dumped all of my points about 3 weeks ago.

(Is it Time to transfer/withdraw points from Velocity?)

I'd be getting those points out ASAP!
Likely too late now given the well publicised restrictions on this.

Beginning of the end?
Past the beginning.

So what should (can I still) do with my points?

Plenty of options discussed here (although now reduced):

It's already being discussed in the financially secure thread.

I suggest those championing a run on points take a look at the Qantas schedule for the next few weeks. It's barely any better.

Perhaps.

But I'd also suggest looking at the underlying share price of the business. That tells a very compelling story!

Absolutely no disagreement. But some poster(s) in this thread have a long history of barely subtle VA bashing (not you). Just trying to introduce some reality.

I would like to see a breakdown on the leased vs owned aircraft in the QF group.

Unless flights are making profit it would make sense not to fly them.

Completely agree. There is no point especially with states implementing self-isolation rules for domestic crew now as well, which to me seems beyond the pale.

I sincerely hope no one has a compassionate reason to visit another state over the next month or so, particularly to WA.

As we know, nothing on VA, and Qantas is barely any better.

Ceasing flights is the right move. It will help them to survive this crisis. If you can't even fill your aircraft to even 10% of it's capacity, why bother flying at all and lose so much more money when you're desperately trying to save your cash!

They must at least fill the aircraft to whatever the breakeven figure is and we are all speculating that we know what number that is.

Remember that empty seats leaves a good capacity for carrying freight instead.

I went MEL to SYD on Monday arvo, I think I counted ~ 30 pax.

Agreed that ceasing flights if they are not profitable is possibly better in the long run for VA. As stated above however, we do not know how much freight is moving as well.

Probably needed to do it due to safety obligations. If you can't keep the service up - it's all over red rover.
