Obviously people here would be familiar with Virgin Money's Flyer credit card 2FOR1 offer.

The T&Cs state:
Both Virgin Australia Guests must be booked to travel together at all times in order to be eligible for the offer. This means that the Itinerary cannot be split, and all flight changes must be made for both Guests.

Does anyone know what (if anything) would happen if one guest (the credit card holder) didn't check-in for one of the legs, more specifically, the outbound leg?

My reading is that both guests would be booked to travel together. Guest A just wouldn't actually travel on the outbound leg. Guests A and B would travel on the return leg.

it shouldn't be a problem, you have the same itinerary for both PAX, just check yourself in on the way out, and both of you on the way back.

The remainder of the booking is cancelled when you no-show on an earlier segment. So I wouldnt no-show relying on the return segment to remain.

Cant answer on irgin's policy but there could be a "fare difference" payable. You could front at the airport and state that you are unable to travel as booked, but no idea what Virgin's policy is in this circumstance.

As danielt25 points out & IME, this is NOT standard operating procedure for most airlines in the domestic Australian airline industry. Can you please provide a source for your statement? Is it specific to the 2FOR1 offer?

(Most domestic fare structures are one way rules, for simplicity you can simply add two one way journeys together to form a return flight, if you are using the same airline.)

I experienced this last year when Mrs D-H (the card holder) couldn't travel with me

I arrived at the Lounge for the outbound sector (it was a last minute thing for me travel solo) and the Angel created a separate booking for me and I travelled there and back on that.

She then put the original booking (with just the Mrs on it) into a credit shell for the return. We had to forfeit the outbound as it was less than 24hrs out.

No reason that the same couldn't happen, with the return being left in place rather than put into credit.

Good luck...
