Does anyone know with Virgin Fly Ahead policy for Gold Status, can you ask at checkin for an earlier flight?

I am booked on last flight out of Brisbane to Melbourne on Friday and want to fly earlier if possible.

Obviously, have to do it at checkin as i will have bags as well.

Is this offer valid for the cheapest Saver fares?


I was denied a Qantas fly ahead this week because of ticket price and baggage and don't want the same happening

Yes, but it's only (officially) available if you're travelling with hand luggage only and should be requested at the lounge.

I've had success (recently) in 'flying ahead' with baggage - I asked at checkin.

Before Velocity got all strict about status... all the time! But that was several years ago. More recently (but before I was gold/plat) I was consistently told that I could only fly ahead when ops was trying to resolve issues such as forecast bad weather, etc.

Velocity benefits say no...but you can always ask I guess.

Unofficially... if you're on a high-volume route like Sydney to Melbourne they /might/ do it. Like anything - just ask nicely - if they're doing "show and go" and see what happens.

I tried CBR-MEL a few weeks ago, on a Friday. Didn't work - flights were full. SYD has a few more flights (but on smaller AC) so you might get lucky. Note to self - don't bother flying ahead to Mel ex cbr on a Friday when parliament is sitting - rookie error I know. Lounge staff were great tho.

I'm asked if I want a fly ahead quiet often, however I do tend to travel Syd - Bris mid afternoon so there is plenty of seats. As a gold I was never asked.

Since becoming gold, have flown BNE to MEL about 6 times, always booked on the last Friday night flight (855pm).

Each time have gone to check in counter about 6-615pm with my bag to check in, and on all occasions have been changed to the 655pm flight.

Anywhere from Sydney on a Friday is tough to get fly ahead.

I get asked at the Lounge all the time if I want an earlier flight. Sometimes I say no as I prefer to unwind in the Lounge rather than hurry to the gate.
Last Monday I was in J and used the SYD valet entry at 10.30am for a 1pm flight and was not asked and I forgot to ask myself.

I've done a lot of SYD-OOL fri, sat, sun, day trips lately and almost every time I'm at the airport early and get fly ahead even when on saver fares when i was silver.

Yep assuming there are seats. Actually in my experience even different bookings on the same flight was fine for both of us to fly ahead.
