COMMUTERS and holiday travellers have been left stunned and angry by Virgin Blue’s decision to axe its early morning flights to and from Sydney as of this Friday.
Last week, the Advocate exclusively revealed that Virgin Blue was cancelling its early-morning commuter service and replacing it with a flight leaving Sydney at 11.40am and returning to Sydney at 1.15pm.

No wonder the customers are upset, despite the inventory changes maybe invoking the move why upset the very segment you want to grow the business with?

Its a big change, no morning flight at all:

I guess they just couldn't recover their costs on the schedules they did have, now it's more a feeder service into the DJ wider network than a stand alone one.

This route is ripe for an ATR 42 and I wouldn't be surprised for it to be the 1st route for the new aircraft.

Slightly off-topic but I was in CFS on Sunday 13 Feb flying QF on the 4.30pm CFS-SYD. I checked in about 2pm and noticed that a lot of VB passengers were checking into QF. Asked what was going on, and a PAX told me that a VB flight CFS-(think it was MEL) had been cancelled. If they had booked in early (which he had) then they were transferred to the QF flight to SYD and then onto MEL.

However, if they hadn't booked in early, then they had 2 options: Get on a bus, travel to BNE (at least 6 hours away) then catch a flight BNE -MEL. Otherwise, wait overnight and catch the early morning flight.

Another PAX told me that she had seen a number of rather upset passengers getting on the BNE bus. It's some journey!
