Saw this on the Flymefunky facebook page "Virgin Australia switched reservation systems over the weekend with Gold frequent flyers no longer being able to select Row 3. Not happy Jan."

Is that true? I was about to book some flights for later this year and actually liked the fact that I could preselect seats and sit closer to the front hence be one of the first off.

Does anyone know what the change now gives Gold status members?

Don't worry I answered my own question - closest seat to the front is row 7. Not too happy but as long as I still get lounge access.... unless I haven't heard something!

I have not followed the threads too much but I hope I still have complimentary baggage included as a Gold.

If I can handle 7C and 21C on a Thai Air Asia flight then I can handle any aisle seat on VA. ;)

Lol! I guess it will take some getting used to... first world problems I know! But still, I get the feeling this is to make it look like Platinums have something more over Gold's which I think is fine but I just wish it would have been done by additions not redistributions..... anyway, my rant's over tonight!

And to anyone who's seen the show 'Come Fly with Me' ..... Happy flighting :p

I seem to recall reading (can't find it though) that once check in opens, people with Gold status have access to any remaining seat in the cabin, including in rows 3-6. Yes, lounge access is still very much a part of the Gold benefits. :)

Gold members get 1 x bag up to 23 kgs on Saver Lite fares and 2 x bags up to 23 kgs on other Economy fares, per Checked baggage allowance | Virgin Australia

Did you mean once check in opens as in 24 hours prior to the flight?

cheers

The fare classes confuse me. I am assuming my existing bookings until May 2013 will have the 1 bag up to 23kgs baggage allowance.

That was my understanding. When I check in at the Lounge I only get further back than row 4 on very rare occasions. We'll see if this changes.

Made 2 x Platinum bookings yesterday from SYD-OOL and could only select from row 12 and back. (all other rows 3-12 were blanked out) . However on the system there was an option to skip the seat allocation section and move forward with the booking. (I elected to skip this step) Not sure of the outcome however I guess I may end up strapped to the wings. I guess I will found out in about 2.5 weeks time.
