Currently Virgin Australia Operates Red-Eye Flights Between The Following City Pairs:
-PER-BNE
-PER-SYD
-PER-MEL
-DRW-BNE
-BNE-DRW
To My Surprise Virgin Australia Does Not Operate A330 Aircraft On PER-SYD and PER-MEL. Why Is This? These Flight Are Where The Aircraft Are Needed Most (For Business Passengers) It Seems Logic To Operate Red-Eyes Where Possible To Increase Aircraft Useage. I Wonder How Red-Eyes Would Work On The Following Routes? (Qantas or Virgin) Increasing Aircraft Utelisations:
-BNE-PER
0005 BNE-0400 PER (05H55M)
-CNS-MEL
0035 CNS-0400 MEL (03H25M)
Cheers Brad.

Virgin don't yet have many A330's. I guess they're keeping them busy enough now with day time traffic attempting to entice the J traveller. As they get more, it's possible you'll see more of these red eye's coming up.

Personally, I'll never fly one ever again. I've done dozens upon dozens of PER-MEL/SYD red eyes, following a w/end visiting home, and having to head straight to work. With the constant tail winds on the E-W segments, you can make PER-MEL in a touch over 2 1/2 hours. Add DST in, and it's a nightmare. Also painful for holiday makers. They arrive not able to check into their hotel for some time and being half asleep.

But it's cheap most the time I gues:)

That sounds not quite right. They won't have enough a/c to do PER to MEL, SYD and BNE with the current frequencies they have, and allowing for a/c rotations for maintenance. Perhaps most though (which i'm looking forward to as I do MEL-PER route the most domestically).

I saw this reported, but I had also seen anothor report that one of the two routes (PER-MEL or PER-SYD) would be all A330, which seemed a bit more likely to me.

Sorry,
I wasn't including Brisbane.
Only cities with current c2c services.
But ausbt had an article last week about it.

Red Eyes can cause some problems with curfews.

I remember coming into Sydney before curfew and we had to do circuits.

We had a really good tail wind.

5 days ago it was reported in several media outlets that Mr Borghetti had announced that MEL-PER and SYD - PER would be exclusively A330 services by christmas this year. How remains to be seen!
The first report I saw it on was ausbt site.

Considering how they're pricing last-minute fares most of the time on PER-SYD/MEL, not to mention special fares and happy hours for double figure pricing, I remain skeptical of Virgin's financial performance on the aforementioned routes

I'm Just Curious Why Brad Starts Every Word With A Capital Letter! (Man, that is hard to type... Does it happen automatically on some device or other?? Annoying if so..)

Keep in mind it's the low season, having said that most flights seem to be pretty full.

Been happening for a while, it's not a newer phenomenon. Just curious is all...as lovetotravel says a full flight doesn't mean a profitable flight. N
