Virgin Australia Discover Gold (Status Match)

Cheers ,

1. I ended up calling VA and the agent told me that the 11/01/2021 is in fact the last date you can pick if you end up applying today, which is FINE in terms of applying for the status match, despite the fact that on the VA website it says "no later than the 4th Jan 2021" --> He had me on hold for a good 5-10 minutes as he didn't know and had to find out.

2. Either/Or.....as in you can attach a copy of either your digital or physical card (photo)

3. You must use the same email address in the EOI that is linked to your Velocity Account.

And lastly, this one I don't believe, but I asked what the process was, (IE how long does it take for them to notify you? Do all QF GOLD/OW equivalents and higher automatically qualify?) to which he said within 3-5 days for the first and Yes to the latter.

What do I have to lose?

Would be great if you did change your handle to GoldSMS 😀😀👍
Hilarious!

The reason I chose this username has nothing to do with Virgin Aust actually, lol. My skin is as red as a tomato as I have a rare genetic skin condition similar to severe psoriasis.

I did have a trip planned with Mum in feb (sunshine Coast but accommodation had to be paid in full by 8th Jan. Unfortunately she broke her arm and required surgery the other day, so we've cancelled. Didn't have flights booked but as a Victorian, spending a week in any state for more than a few days is a risk due to the potential for your home state to shut their borders on you.

It's really unfortunate as the only true relief I am able to get for my skin condition is being in a humid climate. It literally does wonders for me and gives me an easier life and helps my skin more than any drug ever could. It's been a particularly tough year for me as I have spent most of it recovering from a rather deep excision of a melanoma (left calf) almost exactly a year ago. Thankfully I caught the bugger early, but skin graft failed in my case as I don't have any viable, healthy skin.

I usually travel to FNQ (Port Douglas) twice a year (oct/nov) and feb/mar) for approximately 2 weeks per trip. I usually go via BNE to make a semi DSC promotion :)

I'm pretty upset that our state leaders have felt they need to act like this, although, the airlines have been excellent regarding flexibility and status extension.

I guess what angers me the most is the "one rule for the elites and one rule for everyone else when it comes to border restrictions. I was most infuriated the other day by the decision of Cricket Australia, along with the NSW and QLD governments to allow the 3rd test to go ahead in Sydney on Thursday, and the 4th test in Brisbane to go ahead on the 15th January.

Neither the Indian or Australian cricket team or support staff have to quarantine as they are in a bubble. As both teams will be heading to Sydney, the QLD Govt has already granted exceptions (IE no HQ for the cricketers.)

I so badly need some Queensland weather, I would be willing to sit at home (I live by myself,) not allow any visitors for a certain period of time equal to that of what the cricket teams are doing. I would obviously practice social distancing and if at any point throughout my trip I felt unwell, I would not leave my lodging and seek a test immediately.

Trying to work out what the best status run would be from Brisbane over a weekend probably before 28 March, at best cost. However it seems like I would have to do Business Saver one way. I have looked at Adelaide, Hobart, Cairns, even Melbourne.... I qualified for the Velocity Gold status match... but with hospital visits etc the time is now upon me. I am going to Cairns tomorrow with Qantas.... but for my qualifiying keep Platinum with Qantas flight.

HBA often is good value from BNE.
Using the Promo codes BNE-MEL alone will set you back around $500 in Business saver for 60 SC’s but BNE-MEL-HBA is only about $500 also with Promo code’s and will get you 110 SC’s

Looks like Velocity has added 2 months to everyone's Discover Gold membership. My new review date is 30 May 2021 (even though I've already earned 80+ status credits).

The Discover Status Rewards offers have also been extended for 2 months.

Reported losses 7 years in a row. John Borghetti took Virgin up market to attract business custom where the yields are. Very expensive. Presumably this was the policy approved by major share holders. Why else would they allow that otherwise?
because their other strategic choices were even less attractive.

For the VA status match I abandoned my plan. The QF 'single flight' extension takes me out to Sept 2022 well past the VA offer.

Hey everyone, I'm doing SYD-MEL-SYD this weekend. I'm on the Discover Gold thingy. Need to get 80 SC before 11 Jun 2021.

I've booked a $299 J SYD-MEL, which will give me 50SC. For the return, I was wondering if I booked the "Any Seat" option using points, will that quality as a "paid" trip? Is "Any seat" same as "J/Y-ASA" in QF, meaning would I get the SC for the trip booked using "Any Seat" in VA?

Yes, you should earn points/status credits for an Any Seat award as it's essentially a cash fare being purchased using points at a fixed rate.

However, I would advise against using this unless you're teeming with Velocity points you can't otherwise use. If the Any Seat award is good value, it's because the airfare itself is cheap anyway.
