Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

VA126 8.15am Christchurch to Brisbane and for breakfast it's throw it in the bin frittata with bacon and salsa of some sort. 1st bite was overcooked and chewy and by the 3rd piece, nope. Put a serviette over it and throw it away. Don't think I've had a bad VA J meal until this one.

Cold option was muesli.

Morning tea on VA830 from SYD to MEL on 21 Dec (10am departure). Choice of mezze plate with pita bread (pictured) or scones with wipped cream and strawberry jam accompanied by a raspberry yoghurt.

Both options were delicious but the winner has to be the scones as it was fluffy and went well with the cream and jam.

Would be happy to be served either of those for a brunch time flight

The mezze plate would beat the scones any day for me.

Lunch onboard VA 741 MEL-OOL. I had both options on my tray because my wife was holding the little one next to me. It was disappointing to say the least. The chicken sandwich didn't taste fresh and the cold noodle salad was tasty but there wasn't enough so i was left hungry. A packet of chips from the pantry was the only thing offered afterwards. I wish I ate more in the lounge. No hot options available at lunch time (departs at 12:20pm) on 2+ hour flight is poor. If this is the new lighter / fresh menu then it sucks and smells like bad cost cutting to me. Glad this was a points upgrade, I'd be pissed if I paid for J.

While I admit my appetite is a little too "healthy", apart from the two desserts it looks like both options culminate in what might be expected for a descent portioned business class meal. I've recently switched over from QF to VA and have enjoyed the VA J food, even if the offerings are not particularly varied. Disappointing to see this enhancement. Would prefer if they just added another $10 to their fares (which would still be considerably lower than QF in most cases) and not cut the catering as they appear to be doing.

At least you got a salad with your sandwich, we didnt get that with our chicken sandwich

So are there assigned flight times/routes where you get served a meal as opposed to a "snack" or is it just luck of the draw?

I’m desperate to know the answer too. I’m considering upgrading my 9.35pm HBA - MEL flight with points, but I’d like to know how VA cater these later flights. The 6pm HBA-MEL meals are always so generous for a 1hr flight.

sniff sniff.. guess I'll just go back to flying Y and save my points, unless its a SYD to PER flight
use my amex for lounge access and eat there

What soup? The broccoli crud Qantas dish up?

I was more thinking of those delicious Asian-style soups: Qantas does a killer Laksa and the Hot and Sour soup that they recently got is also super tasty! Very common on shorter Domestic flights and usually one of several choices, even during "Snack flights".
