Interesting. Hopefully network wide with generous travel periods.

The fares are for travel between March 15-28, 2021. Examples of fares:
  • Sydney-Byron Bay/Byron Bay-Sydney from $55
  • Sydney-Gold Coast/Gold Coast-Sydney from $55
  • Melbourne-Launceston/Launceston-Melbourne from $64
  • Brisbane-Whitsunday Coast/Whitsunday Coast-Brisbane from $78
  • Melbourne-Gold Coast/Gold Coast-Melbourne from $88
  • Adelaide-Sydney/Sydney-Adelaide from $102
  • Melbourne-Canberra/Canberra-Melbourne from $111
  • Melbourne-Perth/Perth-Melbourne from $146
(Flights from $55: Virgin Australia goes one better with half-price fares starting today)

Pretty limited travel window!
I know 3 people who had already booked flights over the same travel period, so they may cancel for a credit under the current flexible policy and then rebook the same flights if half price...

i recently purchased two SYD-MEL return flights for $318. it will be interesting if this offer bests that.

Yes. I was pleasantly surprised.

I think I just broke Virgin's website... 'Too many requests processing' when searching city pairs :(

I tried searching one-way and it didn't crash...

From the T&Cs:

Discount available from 5:00pm until 7:00pm AEDT on 12 March 2021 unless sold out prior. Seats are limited and may not be available on all flights. Fare prices are in AUD. 50% discount only applies to Economy Getaway fares for travel between 15 March 2021 and 28 March 2021. Discount applies to one-way Economy Getaway fares booked on the internet. Discount does not apply to sale fares, and cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer. Discount does not apply to fees and taxes. Discount is applied automatically at the time of booking when you search for your flights through the widget on the landing page. Fares are subject to availability. Seats are limited and may not be available at peak times or on all flights. Prices may vary until ticketed. A checked baggage allowance is included in your fare.

Looks like you need to book from this page - Virgin Australia On Sale

FWIW, I just had a look at BNE-CBR flights next Monday and the cheapest fare is $289. Not exactly 50% off, although admittedly there are no more Getaway fares left.

Didn't realise it was such a short immediate window for sale flights. Still got $154 return from MEL-OOL in late May, and after 20 mins on hold to the call centre was upgraded into the Economy X for free under the status extension benefit. Good value I'd say!

some of these Rex fares being matched are better than half price anyway (like MEL/SYD-OOL)

I know 3 people who had already booked flights over the same travel period, so they may cancel for a credit under the current flexible policy and then rebook the same flights if half price...
One of them ended up paying $60 less than their original booking...

Call Centre? Can’t we book online?

Booked the flights online, but selected a standard seat as it looks like the complimentary Economy X upgrade isn't linked in the system (so would have to pay for it). Called after making the booking to get shifted into Econ X.
