Hi guys,

Have just received an email from option town offering an upgrade to J for $65. It is only a 90min domestic flight, has anyone flown J with Vietnam domestically? Is it worth it? I know its only $65 but the flight was cheap to start with so i from memory this is just under what i paid for the flight to start with.

Did the same thing , although I think it was slightly cheaper. Was nice, probably marginal if it was worth it for a short flight. You also don't get lounge access on these fares.

Flew Vietnam J earlier this year on a number of sectors. I had no complaints but it is not a patch on domestic QF or VA. The service is good but the fitout was a bit tired. Main benefit is probably no check-in queue and priority boarding. The longer domestic legs (which it sounds like yours is) can be 777 or A330 so more legroom, bigger seat, a menu in J and possibly a glass of bubbly. There was no IFE on any domestic sector I took (in J) regardless of the plane. If you don't think $65 is worth it, do it simply for the experience.

I flew Vietnam Airlines in J domestically a couple of years ago from Hanoi to Hue and then from Da Nang to Saigon and the fare itself was only $60 or so for each flight...it was ok but nothing to write home about
you should've just bought the J fare outright, it would've been less that $65 I bet:p

VN fare prices are much cheaper if booked directly via their website when compared to booking with a TA in Australia (which can double the price or even more).

It is definitely worth the cost to upgrade to J. The crowd in Y, especially domestic, can be quite rude and rowdy and this alone is worth more than $65!
