Actually nothing to do with Qantas, but as a long time QF Platinum who had not flown Cathay Pacific since 1979, I just flew MEL to HGK and then onto Taipei, all with Cathay Pacific.
The OneWorld Emerald status clearly impressed them.
On each flight I was approached early and asked for drink orders.
On the MEL to HKG flight she even took my meal orders early, to ensure I got my choice.
It may be shear coincidence, but I also got upgraded to Business Class (off an L class booking!) on the HongKong to Taipei flight.

So just as a simple comment... was very impressed.

CX are reported to treat elites generally very well. I have flown them frequently in J and had excellent service (though I am getting less impressed with their food). I always get a greeting from teh CSM.

As I fly J on routes that now have no F I don't get upgrades - however I have heard of QF elites getting frequent upgrades.

Hopefully Qantas takes note from the asian airlines

Yep, I observed this during my HKG visit in November. Did a lot of back and forth between Shanghai. In-seat greetings for all the elites on CX & KA on every single flight.

Would be really nice if Qantas did this.

One other slightly more icky thing to point out.... from where I was sitting in economy on the MEL to HGK flight (bulkhead row directly behind the toilet region),
I noticed the staff were constantly cleaning the toilets.
I compared to this to several trips to LAX on QF where the toilets were quite rank by the time we landed.

I also noted the Cathay staff did lots of drinks runs, offering juice and water over the course of the flight.
While I have noted that QF do this regularly on the A380, I have not seen this as consistently done on the QF 747s.

Thats a pretty consistent observation on my flights as well, CX crew seem to be determined to make the trip go as smooth as possible for the passengers whereas at times QF crew want to get the meal service over and then hide. It would be interesting to ask the cleaning crews at HKG which airline arrives with its cabin in the best state?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I think it's a huge cultural thing with the situation of the toilets.

My parents are Asian and they offer a different opinion why Asian carriers' crew are very vigilant with cleaning the toilet consistently, but that's not quite appropriate for this forum. In saying that it is only the Asian carriers that I see doing this consistently.

CX didn't do many drink runs when I flew HKG-ADL-MEL with them in J, although reasons for this are probably (a) it is J (you can order when you like), and (b) it was a night flight, so people want to sleep (or at least some of them).

I too have heard of CX frequently upgrading OWEs, which is odd because you'd think there are plenty of CX Diamonds on any given flight (and then how to do you split hairs against the other OWEs anyway?). It's certainly not a space-filling objective, however (i.e. I've seen empty seats in premium cabins, so it's not a USA-style fill-the-premium-cabin objective). I had 2 chances for upgrades with CX (Y to J and J to F), but my score is still 0.

And, when I come to think about it, CX didn't greet me when I flew them in Y. I flew them in J and got a greeting, but of course everyone in the cabin got one. There was also no prioritisation of choice (even for any potential CX elites) of meals on any of the flights I was on.

Does everyone in J get the greeting from the CSM? I have been greeted when teh people next to me have not.

Re the CX Diamond vs. OWE - my understanding is that CX do treat their own elites better than OWE somehow.

CX appear to have a great thing going with QF's WPs.

Who wouldn't want to know every time their competitor's most frequent/best customers step onboard? Well thanks to 1W, when a "QF Emerald" books or checks-in, they tend to indentify themselves as such... and it seems that CX has determined there's a golden opportunity to go the extra mile [compared to QF], to convert them. [AU-EU/UK/Asia]

Well done CX!

One more question....
any hint as to how long I will have to wait for the points and SCs to accrue?
They are all that are standing between me and platinum renewal... I am on 1125 and this trip should yield 80....

There have been reports that they seem to be batched and sent to QFF one night every week, not sure what that current night is.

+1 for frequent op ups and more personal greetings in CX.

Re posting of points and SCs, still on every Tuesday night.

I can confirm that CX appear to treat QF Platinums quite well.

I am jealous. I have yet to be upgraded from economy to business class on CX on 4 flights and I usually travel on K or M class airfares. I have been upgraded from Business to First a number of times though. ;)

In my experience not everyone gets the greeting. The CSM is usually holding the manifest in their hands and only going to what appears to be the Elites.

Hope you have better luck than me. I flew 4 sectors on Monday 25 October and 2 sectors had posted on Tuesday 26 October and also flew 1 sector on Thursday 4 November and the sector posted on Tuesday 9 November.

I put an online claim for the 2 sectors not posted and I received 2 entries in my QFF account on 19 November "Ineligible Class First". They were economy class flights and I did not get upgraded. Anyway sent my itinerary to QF and the 2 sectors were manually posted on 24 November almost 1 month after the flights.

Back in December 2009 I did a number of sectors on CX and 5 of them did not post. Eventually all sectors posted but had fun with 1 sector TPE-HKG as I did this sector twice in the one day.

I too love the CX greeting, in June this year I was flying PVG-HKG-MEL in J and was personally greeted on both segments. As others have noted the FA moves about the cabin with the manifest in hand.

I was only an SG at the time and am really looking forward to my 7 x J trips early next year in CX as a WP.

JAL is also pretty good with the greetings - even on domestic legs.

We were on CX to AMS the other evening leaving HKG at 00.35, flying upstairs in J

Only a lowly SG so I didn't get the whole red carpet treatment, but I actually found the CSM to be a bit abrupt, and her English was pretty average. Being a night flight they mostly left us alone, but the service we did get was OK.

Thought the aircraft was looking a little tired, but I understand they are about to fully refurb their J cabins. From the look of our cabin it is well and truly due.

Yep. This mirrors my experiences very well. The food has been reducing in quality (I really miss the old "plate at your seat" food options, and the champagne etc has been reducing in quality), but they've always treated me well.

The upgrades (when I'm not in the highest cabin) used to be frequent, but haven't happened for a while. That's apparently because they reclassified their pecking order for upgrades.

Oh - and the regional planes are getting quite shabby in J!

The only airline in recent flights that I wont drink the champagne in J is CX :( The Deutz is worse than the tattinger (and I think my opinion on Tattinger is well known ;)) though they have had a nice rose champagne recently which is meant to be the aperitif drink - but as I complained vigorously about the Deutz they kept me supplied with the rose :)

I also had the life flat beds HKG-DEL rather than regional recently :)
