Hello all,

Im getting very frustrated with the differing advice given to me by both airlines.

My wife, 3 yo and 1yo are flying domestic with Qantas.
I had asiamiles points so I booked through them , business award seats. There was no option for the infant to be booked and I checked this through the chat and they said it can’t be done.
I then finally got through to the qantas call centre after 1.5hrs and they said the ticket number begins with 160 so it’s Cathay pacifics issue and qantas can’t issue an infant ticket. I then rang Cathay Pacific help centre and they said they can’t do anything and it needs to be qantas. I recalled qantas but it’s another 1 hour 45 min wait so I thought I’ll seek advice here first!!

Howdy, QF dont require tickets for infants domestically. Just ask Cathay to add an SSR to Qantas with the infants name and DOB and you will have no problem.

I have had similar issues in the past with Qantas and Virgin before my daughter was 2 years old.

As mentioned above an infant does not need booking and I turned up to airport with my daughter quite a few times and she travelled with me each time.

Wow, I wish I had gotten the helpful advice above.
wchiri, I had a very similar issue fairly recently, using Alaska miles to book domestic QF flights. Took a fair bit of persistence on the QF text help line, with them giving me the same spiel they gave you about it needing to be done by Alaskan, and Alaskan likewise saying they couldn't, but eventually QF relented and created a 'parallel' booking for the infant. It helped that before booking, I got a different rep to confirm in writing that an infant could be added later, so I was able to quote that back to the reps I got to actually do the adding, after they initially resisted.
Could have saved myself a lot of time and some angst if I knew I could just turn up at the airport with the little guy and get him straight on!

Technically it should've been done by the ticketing airline/agent, but as a last resort can be done at the airport for domestic flights.
