Hi all, hope I am posting in the correct forum.

I retired a few years back and haven't traveled internationally for the same period.

My wife and I are looking to travel BNE-BCN 24-09-26 return 30-10-26 Business class. Totally flexible on dates.

I have noticed my points stash is worth a lot less these days which I guess should be expected.

I have
1,900,000 Velocity
840,000 Amex MR

I looked at Points redemption on Virgin /Qatar and the flight show 684,500 points and $668.43 which should total 1,360,00 points and $1,336.86 cash

When I go to checkout it shows 1,944000 points and $8,383.52 cash. it's as if Velocity want the exact balance of my points hahahah

After a call to Velocity call Centre they say it's just how it is.

Am I missing something here?, and, does anyone have any suggestions for a better deal?

Many thanks. Mark

This is not a rewards booking.

This is you paying for the full price fare but using points.

You will see purple box saying REWARDS SEATS AVAILABLE, see attached as example.

This option requires considerably less points to book.

Hi Billmurray,

I chose the Rewards Seats. What do you see when you do a dummy booking.. don't forget to chose the tix to see the change in point/cash

I'll have another crack at it, just in case I missed something, but I have tried many attempts 🤦‍♂️
Also it Brisbane - Barcelona

There are quite a few options ex BNE to SIN for 74k each in J and two in J for 90K each SIN-BCN, coming back is more problematic. You might find it better to use points to get out of Aus and grab a low cost J fare ex Asia

Yep, correct. There is a huge points required difference for "Reward" and "Any seat" bookings.

Also OP, There appears to be a "Reward" seat available for the 22nd of September.

And there are some seats for the end of October available.

IMG_0211.jpegOk, thanks all, So I have been looking at 'Any Seat"' rewards. As the Rewards seat you sent (and thanks) is 174,000. And thanks Markus10 for the other options.

So, just to clear my mind, I still cannot see how the discrepancy is with the math..

Notice the points and cash values at booking the ticket then look at the totals on the summary page ,
