Howdy,
Stayed in the Adelaide Crown Plaza overnight.

On checking in, tried to give them my Velocity reward card, but the lass said they didn't take it. I went, 'oh, okay... fair enough'...

On checkout, the girl had no idea, so asked the lass next to her... who said that they take it, for priority club members.... so I'd get velocity points if i signed up to priority club. I agreed, hesitantly.

10 minutes later, she signed me up to priority club... but, said the 'system' wouldn't let her add my velocity card to priority club (she said the system went down sometimes {how would she know, if she had no idea about earning velocity points before!?})...

So I got my Priority Club member number on my hotel receipt.... but, it doesn't appear linked at all to Velocity.

Why is it so hard?

'So, my questions are:
1. Do I 'add' my Velocity number to Priority Club (couldn't found how to on the website)... or, did they just mean I can earn PC points, then 'buy' velocity points with the PC points, at a rate of 10,000 to 2,000?

2. I guess my next step is to do a retro point claim using the VElocity website? I can't do it at the moment, as 'the activity has not finished' (yes it has, but, I'll wait till tomorrow, I guess).

3. Why is it so hard to give me Velocity points? What were they suppose to do? Surely it is not an uncommon request??

4. This, and the fact that I claimed missing flights over 12 weeks ago, really gives me concern about this program. I'm about to buy online from Strawberry Net... whats the bet that they don't go through either?

5.

So, which is it, 1 per $1 or 2 per $1??

At least the QF program just plain works.

Just change your PC earning method to velocity, it's not hard at all.

Well, I clearly don't know how, and you do...mind telling me?

Will it count last nights stay, or do I need to do a retro claim? I don't know, do you? Mind sharing?

Markis10 - I don't think your reply is helpfull.
The OP clearly doesn't get the minute details of the PC program.

To the OP - the Virgin website is misleading, you can't just directly book and earn. But once you join PC you can set your 'earning preference' to airline miles and it should work fine. However I'd still put in a claim because the website clearly says 'book direct and earn'.

Log in to priority club at www.priorityclub.com, go to earnings preference and change it to Velocity rewards. You can also put in a retro claim with Velocity rewards, which is better than being signed up by the hotel as there is a cap on earnings for the first stay. Changing earning preferences is not a minute detail, and very easy to do.

"Well, I clearly don't know how"
"the Virgin website is misleading"
"cap on earnings for the first stay"

It seems that, not only is it NOT straight forward, but there *IS* minute detail involved in the PC program, that I (reasonably!) wasn't aware of.

Also, I am confused.
You said that I can put a retro claim into Virgin... yet, muppet says 'you can't just directly book and earn' - implying that a retro claim may not work.

Anyway, it took me about an hour after your message to find out how to update earnings preferences...

I had to enable online billing preferences, THEN you have the option of linking to Velocity. Nothing on the website seems to indicate this, and could only find out through Googling.

Anyway, got it all sorted now. Just not sure if to 'chase up' Virgin or PC for last nights stay. Like, I just changed my preferences to Velocity then, so will last nights stay be for Virgin or reward points when last nights stay credits over, eventually?

Also, thanks admel.

Like most web sites the PC one is easy once you have played around with it a little. Had you mentioned that you were still having difficulties then markis10 or anyone of a bunch of others would have jumped to your aid.

Didn't want to ask ;)

Realistically, it's RIGHT in front of your nose... IF you sign up for online billing :p

If PC don't credit the stay just chase it through Velocity and don't even mention PC, as per the velocity website:

"Simply present your Velocity membership card when you book or check-in to earn Points with our accommodation partners. Alternatively, log into My Account and claim your Points online after your stay."

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thank you, but my correct comment stands.

You need to sign up for electronic billing first.

I have never signed up for electronic billing and had that change earning preference showing well before the introduced online bills in the last year or so.

I did a quick sign up as a new member, no need for electronic billing and again it shows on the account page:

I can confirm that. No need to sign up for electronic billing. I can swap between frequent flyer points or PC points and haven't needed to go ebilling.

What an inconsistent little system.

Seriously couldn't find it for an hour - even though I had found the PC page that said 'click her to change'...

Then found a google site (A different forum) saying that they had to sign up to ebilling... tried that, and it instantly appeared.

MAYYYYYBE it has something to do with the fact that the receptionist tried to add my velocity card when she signed me up? Maybe its coz she signed me up (So, different way to the way you signed up)??

Inconsistent is one word, useless is another which seems to be the direction PC are heading online, all show with no substance.
