Velocity points for VA flight upgrade

We have a return booking for Mel to SFO in the month of Dec 2019. Onward journey is Elevate and return journey is Getaway. I am trying to understand how many points will be required to upgrade from Economy to Business. At this point , I am reluctant to bid for upgrade and will take my chances to see if any upgrade option comes up with points. Appreciate your time.

I thought point upgrades to LAX were only allowed for SG & WP status flyers (your profile says VA silver).
Platinum and Gold Velocity members booked on certain fares can use Points to request an upgrade on International Long Haul flights to or from Los Angeles and Hong Kong operated by Virgin Australia with a VA flight number.

Pardon my ignorance , I missed reading that before I booked the ticket and was assuming. I will have to probably read the terms correctly before booking as I was expecting to find myself an upgrade using the stash of points that I will get in Oct. Cheers

Any chance you will become gold or platinum mid travel? If yes, maybe point upgrade on the way home if possible.

I was hoping to cash in on the previous double status credits offers. Missed it by a week , so will attain gold only after return journey is complete. Will wait for any upcoming double SC promotions to see if I can be gold before my travel.

Alternatively , is it worth buying the day pass at VA lounge at LA as we have a 6.5 hour layover and need some option so we can manage our little one without much stress. Cheers

Last I looked into it the VA lounge (not at TBIT) didnt have a shower - but my info is out of date.

I would have said the day pass was absolutely worth the money too, however it would appear that you have not met the eligibility for one. Pity - it is an amazing retreat to wind down before a long flight. And the showers are divine!

Have a great flight in December - hope your elevation to Gold is swift and you are sampling the EK Lounge in no time

Is there any specific reason for not being eligible for the day pass. Is it because of the VA flight and not EK flight. cheers

First reason is as above. Second, is the implication that you are still Silver. How many SC are you short of Gold?

Probably half way through , around 270 short of attaining gold. After this trip , I am sure to reach gold as it's 2 adults and a kid which will result in 300 SCs.
