Ok,
Recently and before the changes to status credits I booked three flights and paid for them on 27th March. (Changes to SC for booking after 02/04/25

SYD- ADL-BNE-SYD

I paid $300 for the bid for business for the ADL-BNE sector

After the flights completed. I received 15sc
For SYD-ADL. For the upgraded ADL- BNE 20 sc only and finally 15 for BNE to SYD 15SC
So they short changed me. Ringing the platinum “line” they don’t seem to grasp the problem and this is really frustrating. How do I escalate as a platinum card holder this issue

Upgrades only earn for original fare purchased.
And here is another fault with their brain fart. If you pay the extra you should be rewarded. They just love having everything their way. Loyalty is a oneway street.

Totally agree. You now give us SCs based on how much the fare is (rather than distance), so we should get the extra SCs for a successful bid upgrade. Sounds like they want their cake and eat it too!

OP purchased tix prior to spend based change, so I’m assuming SCs for original fare apply (as they have for years and QF is the same). But yes, in a totally spend based earn, they should factor that in but apparently no change here….

Of course not. Why would they? Quelle surprise!

They are a genuine competitor to jetstar, that is all. Not saying this is a bad thing, as we need this, but just not my cup of tea anymore.

VA is also miserable when it comes to paying fees and charges on award tickets. You get nothing credited for them. Desire those same fees and charges earning points when paid as part of a regular fare.

That sounds completely standard though. Pretty sure you're not earning anything if you spend $2k on carrier surcharges on an Emirates award on Qantas.

no, because QF isn’t a spend-based program. VA is.

If you buy MEL-SYD you get 10 points per dollar for the fare, which includes taxes, fees and charges.

But you don’t get 10 points for the taxes fees and surcharges when redeeming.

For spend-based programs it should be spend based.

BA are spend based TP’s and yet you get zero TP’s for award flights.
On their spend based system you only get TP’s for the base fare plus carrier charges
True (but with BA I think the choice of rewards and destinations remain rather good). ....but you do get TPs for bought upgrades which the Op first referred. Tbh, not nearly as good as ofcourse the previous points allocation 😕.

Only regular retail fares qualify for the spend.

Upgrade spend isn't included. Wasn't included before, so no change now.

Why bother? We were both Platinum for a few years and quite frankly got no extra benefits over Gold.

No call centre that knew what it was doing. No upgrades unless you were prepared to be subload in 3 months time. No anything really.

Stopped flying VA and now dropped down to Gold, and we have no incentive to spend the money to get back up to Platinum, for no real additional benefits.

My partner even ditched her VFF Amex Platinum and went Amex Platinum so she can transfer her points elsewhere. I'm transferring to SQ as more opportunity to use them. Who in their right mind would spend 1 Million points to go to Asia in J via VA or their "partners"? Last June we booked MEL/FCO return for March/April this year, out on SQ J and back on QR Q suites for 239,000 points return each. A very good deal. Haven't seen anything on their website anywhere near their "Points chart" ever since. Dynamic pricing is killing any benefit.

Farewell VA. After 14 years, the first 12 were great, but now........Nope.
