Just booked Virgin America SFO/LAS in 1st, as a VG can we use their lounge in SFO if they have one?.

VX don't have lounges. But as a First Class ticketholder you're allowed to access the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse for $35, if it's open.

Nope. No reciprocal access with Virgin America - if with Delta you could have had access to Delta.

As a First pax looks like you can buy access for $35, although the Clubhouse seems to be pre-security at SFO

There are only a few cases in the US where you could get lounge access purely by virtue of a domestic F ticket. It's generally paying members and international premium pax only.

And not so long ago that flying J domestic on QF did not confer QP access. :shock:

Yeah its a bit rich I thought too.

Flight time/price just suited us, reason we booked with them, also, first points for me with Virgin OZ.

Does anyone think this will change in the future given that VAustralia and VAmerica now share more flights etc. Virgin Australia hooks up with Virgin America for US flights - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller

No. Because Virgin America don't have any lounges, and don't have any status programs.

Well, probably a bit of an overstatement saying it's "the answer." For all I know VX might be readying a devious plan to open lounges all over the US next month . Given that I'm flying ORD-LAX with them in a few weeks I wouldn't complain!

But at the moment VX is basically using the JQ lounge model - provide pax with access (albeit at a fee) to VS Clubhouses where available and whenever VS chooses to open them (just as JQ will 'sell' you QF lounge access (within your ticket price) when it's convenient to QF).

Given the mess that legacy airlines in the US have created with free upgrades etc. VX might be wanting to avoid a traditional loyalty program.
