Velocity - Lifetime benefits

Lots of airlines used to provide a lot more benefits to the top tiers. Some of them even had regular status matches.

The game has changed. I don't think an airline would bring in a lifefime status and then offer lifetime status to frequent flyers for past loyalty. Makes no sense to me. But that doesn't mean I am right.

Let's put it this way. If Qantas introduced Lifetime Platinum at 28,000 SCs it would make no sense to offer it on existing SC balances. Why? The SC balances some people accumulated the past couple of years via Any Seat awards and double SC offers is obscene and would offer them way more benefits than the income and loyalty they provided.

But I still think the number of instant emeralds in your case would be very minimal.

Other thing to note is anyone on such a high SC balance already did not get there by flying economy. So any future tickets they purchase are likely to be in premium cabins where being Emerald means very little/almost no additional cost to fulfil the service.

Perhaps you are right.

I just don't see airlines giving away too much more right now.

I just remembered that BA announced lifetime status recently as a new benefit so I think there's still hope.

BA Lifetime Gold (OWE) was in 2013. More recently they have increased long-haul premium redemption rates by up to 50% :(

I'm still praying this comes up sooner rather than later.

I'm starting to think giving up is better than waiting.

I'm a Velocity Platinum and last week I hit the 800 SC to maintain it, which I needed to get before June 2016! So from now until June next year, every SC I earn will effectively go to waste. And since I've guaranteed Platinum until June 2017 maybe this is a good time to go for status in Qantas or Singapore Airlines (to get access to the alliance).

You and me both. Sitting on 1700 SCs with no use for them (apart from partner gold). Frustrating as hell.

I switch but I'm not willing to forgo status getting QF up. Maybe SQ is the way to go.

Why don't you pool to someone else? I get to my 800 and then pool to the wife or kids. Makes it easier for lounge access etc with 2 x elites than one, especially with the 1 guest rule at most partner lounges.
I can't see the point in changing carrier once you have built status, you go back to no benefits again and waste the status you have earned? Thats crazy talk.

If you can't/don't want to pool to someone else, then you might as well start crediting to an airline where you'll get the most value for your points. Depending on where you travel to, Singapore Airlines could be a good one.

A quick caveat; if you'd be flying mainly on SQ, I suspect you'd get more value from crediting to VA (as VA WP gets you decent benefits on SQ anyway), then converting the VA Miles to KF Miles. The 100% WP bonus means that after accounting for the loss on conversion to KF (1.35 : 1 IIRC), you're still ahead of the game unless you already have status on SQ. I also remember being fairly disappointed with the number of KF points that I received a couple of years ago when I credited a VA flight across.

IF broader Star Alliance status would be useful, then KF could be the programme to go for

Happy to be corrected if others disagree

This is the same conundrum that I currently have.

Returned NYC-PER yesterday and have requalified VA Gold until July 2017.

I have PER-SYD-OOL which I will credited to VA tomorrow.

November I have BNE-AKL-LAX-AKL-BNE on Air NZ. With future trips from BNE-NYC in Feb/Apr/June, I am wondering if I should convert to another program and then transfer points to Velocity. I was thinking of SQ and KrisFlyer.

The only reason I see to stay with VA is I have about 150k points and saving for the honeymoon/spouse spoiling. I also have Alitalia Gold thru status match.

This has been going since Jan 2011. I don't think it gonna change.

Welcome to the forum Pilbara, recently there's been a lot of speculation about potential of their being lifetime benefits for velocity, this is partly due to emails and questionnaires being sent to velocity members about the prospect of it being implemented.

Time to go QANTAS.....

Many of us frequently use both airlines or are stuck with VA due to various reasons, making it difficult to change over. Providing lifetime benefits would be great way to reward loyal VA flyers.

Well if VA doesn't offer lifetime status I have every incentive to stick to flying QF as much as possible, and the longer this situation continues the less likely I'll be willing to consider trying for status on VA.
