Hey all, so I've got some more SQ/VA relationship questions! Basically, I noticed that when a Virgin (domestic) flight was credited to a Krisflyer account, there were redeemable miles earned but no elite qualifying miles which was a little disappointing.

My question now, is whether the an SQ flight credited to Velocity will earn SC as well as redeemable miles? I've got flights coming up on SQ (booked on SQ as SQ numbers etc..) but have entered my Velocity number. The rationale being, the amount of SC earned will push me over to Velocity Gold and be more useful than if crediting to Krisflyer. Can anyone confirm that I would earn the SC and miles?

That is correct, you will earn both SC and miles when flying on SQ numbers.
It's certainly how I got myself over to Velocity gold... (There's some good value to be had from Singapore Flexi Savers)

Carefully check your fare class, not all SQ classes earn much if anything.

Agreed the flexi savers are good value for SCs though!

100% definitely check the fare class!
To be fair though, the discount economy fares don't earn much with both Krisflyer and Velocity.
Eg. N and Q both 50% miles flown. K and V both just 10% miles flown...

Great thanks! Yep fare class is fine - it's in SQ PE hence the SC earned is much better than mileage based status earning. Indeed those Flexi Savers are the best, for the sake of $50-70 usually I don't bother with the saver saver fare.

I have a trip SYD-LHR and return booked for July with the Mrs, counting on the flexi-saver SC quirk to retain gold for the year (and possibly pip me over into Platinum if I can convince work to do me a few flights in Jun & Aug.

By the by I used DL to put me over the line into Gold last year too, quite happy with these partnerships so far!!

Yes , Love Singapore Airlines & with VA earning SC & point .. Good for you Virgin!
Lord L, hope U & Mrs enjoy your SQ flight ...you will love SQ :p.
I had a trip with SQ in July to BKK on Waiting List to Biz ... Fingers crossed

Thanks spacesheep, yeh I'm a fan of SQ, try to fly them whenever I can, so the VA relationship is a bonus. I'm a tall guy with long legs (and used to swim and play rugby) so SQ is about one of the few Economy seats I actually find bearable for a full LHR trip, especially on an A380 leg (upstairs in the small Economy cabin of course)

Shame that finances don't allow me to fly Business (or even Premium Economy)

Well, Lord L can ask always buy the most expensive economy & upgrade :p.
Companies now are smart they know staff earn FF points so unless U are the top guys..Biz is out.
Yes, SQ A380 economy seat is good :)

Upstairs cabin is so good! I love the 2 seats on the side and the extra space from the side storage bins.

Yep, that's my favourite spot on the SQ A380, only got it for 1 of the 4 legs though :( still, it's the SIN-LHR leg so that's something!!

Question re SC earn on SQ. I am looking to book a PE fare via the SQ website flying SYD-SIN-BKK and the SIN-BKK sector will be in economy (no choice as they don't operate metal with PE on this leg), will I earn the Velocity PE SC rate for ALL sectors or will I only earn the PE SC rate for the SYD-SIN leg? It's the difference of 15 SC's each way, so hoping it will earn the PE SC rate even though flying in economy. Advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'll be interested to know the answer to this one too - I would previously have assumed in this situation that all sectors would earn PE SCs, as on several of our trips to the US, we booked PE all the way from Perth and on each trip, received PE SCs on all legs, even though of course there's no PE on the (Australian) domestic sectors. However the last time we booked PE to the US I found this had changed and the domestic sectors - even if booked and paid as PE - only earn full domestic Y SCs, not PE SCs (which is a difference of 20SCs on coast-to-coast flights), however I don't know if it's the same with international sectors.

Velocity's expianation was that PE bookings for domestic sectors are ticketed as Flexi fare class, therefore only eligible for Y SCs.

Think I've answered my own question. Did a dummy booking on SQ and the PE legs show as 'P' fare class, the Y legs show as 'W' fare class. Guessing that means I'll earn PE SC's on the SYD-SIN leg and Full Fare Y SC's on the SIN-BKK legs. Will have to be a bit more creative..... :)

So sounds like it is the same with international sectors as well, which is a bit of a bummer, as booking PE used to be a good way to earn those extra SCs.
